It's not Obama but a law signed into effect in the early 90's.

It's not a surprise countries like Israel, Germany and the US didn't accept and voted against this.

Re: US freezes UNESCO funds for recognizing Palestine

Well, it's not exactly on topic perhaps, but close enough.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newswee...ts-course.html

Israel is in dire straits when no less than Moshe Dayan's widow has this to say about its present state. Not that I'm really an admirer of the sort of world Moshe Dyana helped to build, but yet.

Excerpt:

In reference to the current prime minister’s conservative stance, Dayan takes pains to make herself clear. “I reject Netanyahu’s policy; it is a recipe for disaster. He is unwilling to address the issue. It’s a bunker mentality. We had the Oslo accords, which established Palestinian control over certain areas in the West Bank and Gaza, while other areas remained under mixed control. The accords established the Palestinian Authority and police force, but nothing has changed. The number of settlements has increased from 60 to 200, military checkpoints are everywhere, and freedom of movement is virtually nonexistent. Violence is still the only spoken language. I don’t try to instill optimism in my Palestinian friends. Out of courtesy, I tell them that I hope something will change. But I don’t speak about peace anymore; I don’t have the courage. I’m friends with so many Arabs. My soulmate is Raymonda Tawil, Arafat’s mother-in-law. This government does not represent my values. It’s gone so far. Both sides think they are freedom fighters.”
(..)
When I provoke her with the question of whether the security measures are justified by terrorism, she interrupts me and says: “Oh, please, nothing will stop terrorism except dialogue. [Yitz-hak] Rabin could have achieved peace. He fought terrorism as if there were no negotiations, and negotiated as if there was no terrorism.”(..)

Well a whole new can of worms has just been opened. That's pretty much what I feel on this subject.

These big Western nations wash their hands with Palestine's blood, pretty sad.

Re: US freezes UNESCO funds for recognizing Palestine

UNESCO, like the rest of the UN, is just a gentlemen's club for misusing the US money. Hopefully that money will now be put to better use. Doctors Without Borders maybe.
As for UNESCO, let the other countries step up and contribute more, if they like. Oh wait, what would be the point of contributing if you are only interested in receiving? Even the title of this thread shows what this is all about - US money.

Re: US freezes UNESCO funds for recognizing Palestine

I hope palestine gets the 9th vote for statehood.
They can then take Israel to court for war crimes, Israel is worried about this.
israel would be more accountable for their actions also.

However it looks like Bosnia serbs have been bought off.

Quote:
The leader of the Bosnian Serbs and president of their mini-state, Milorad Dodik, said after the meeting that the Serb representatives in the central institutions are against the possibility of Bosnia voting at the Security Council for the Palestinian bid.

He added that he now expects Bosnian Serbs and Israel to strengthen economic ties and work on tourism and agriculture.
What's this guy talking about tourism and agriculture? Not the smartest leadership over there.
