Are any tennis players the most famous person in their respective country?

Novak Djokovic..What would you say?

Is he more recognised than any other Serbian politician, famous person, president etc?

Is he the one person all the kids in Serbia want to be?

Roger Federer?

Rafael Nadal? Some footballers and Fernando Alonzo are probably more spoken of.

"I did not play my best tennis, no? And..that is what enable him to win..to win this match no? "

- Rafael Nadal, ever so "humble", - press conference after shock 4 set loss to Robeen Soderling @ 2009 French Open 4th round.

Are you talking people currently living, historical people, what?

Nole fan: "...most Fedtards seem to be very rabid and rude." (I agree 100%)

You can bet Djokovic's mom just screamed "Another king is dead" right about now - in the remotest corner - of her bathroom - followed by "The other one is buried." (from tennisplanet.me, following Madrid 2011 Djokovic d. Nadal 7-5 6-4)

At this moment perhaps, but in general I don't think so. Many people in Serbia couldn't care less about tennis or follow tennis just because they follow sport in general For many football is/was/will always be no 1.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: Is Novak Djokovic the most famous person in Serbia?

To be honest, I don't have a clue who is at the moment Probably there is a big difference between Belgrade and Novi Sad (two biggest cities in Serbia) and the rest of Serbia; while in Belgrade Novak is probably huge, in many other parts I wouldn't be surprised that people don't care much/barely have heard about him Same goes for older vs younger people etc.

Politicians are probably still the most recognizable faces here, sadly.
