If you won millions of dollars and were single, would you continue to work?

If you inherited or won millions of dollars, thereby securing your financial security for life, would you keep working a 9-5 job?

Or would you sit on MTF all day?

The default answer for many is put the money in the bank and live off the interest, and just be a bum. But man lottery winners who have done just that have commited suicide and led miserable lives, many say not working is harder than working (for a longer period of time, easy to get depressed when the mind is not occupied).

Interesting story about the nightmare side of winning lotto.

Obviously, anyone who wins more than a couple million, if they play their cards right, would never have to work again.

But would you anyway? In a recession its hard to find a job, but say you had one when you won, would you pack it in?

This is assuming you had no family to look after, no wife or gf, so would just be bumming around the house or tolling the internet all day.

you finally made a good thread

i dreamed about getting millions of dollars for twenty years but i never got it

if i ever get these dollars, for sure i will resign from my present job immediately, and buy a single house with no neighbour around, who make noises all the time I am going to sleep till noon, after that, do some exercises, and at night, sit and watch tv with snacks around, i have enough of work, i have been working for more than 15 years!

Work? Yeah! But 'd choose the work wisely and do it on my terms i.e. will do what I feel passionate about. Which is not very different from what I already do. LOL! I love my life!

Absolutely NOT! I would never get up at 5.30am to stand in freezing cold bus queues in the dark ever again - I HATE work and admit I only do it because I have a mortgage to pay Like mimi, I've been working more than 15 years now - never any time off apart from annual leave, and I've had enough of it. There are plenty of things I could do in my life much more fulfilling than working.

However I would do voluntary work for charities of my choice, and have a dream to set up a sanctuary for abandoned and ill-treated animals. I would surely never do a "proper" job in an office ever again.

Re: If you won millions of dollars and were single, would you continue to work?

I've had thoughts about this for years... I guess we all dream of obtaining sufficient money - whether by inheritance or winning lotto - so we don't have to work. I'm not totally sure of what I'd do. I always thought I'd probably cut my hours to maybe 3 days a week - 5 hours each day... Not because I enjoy it, just because I would probably get bored with without working and miss some of the social interaction I have while working.

Thing is, if I won a substantial lot of money then the main thing I'd want to do is travel the world... so that would probably mean I'd have to quit my current job because I'd be away for a LONG time travelling. So I'd have to find a new one when I got back... but I think it's a nice thought of having a job while having the financial security to be able to quit it whenever it pisses you off

*exiting dream mode now and jolting back to reality *

No.

For sure i'd do smth useful in the very few spare time i'd have after sleeping, watching tennis, MTFing and scratching my balls on the sofa, most probably some kind of personal charity project involving animals, but i won't have fixed hours, obligations or bosses.

I'd basically enjoy life.

No. Maybe I would with a kid to have some kind of role model status and keep away the thought from him/her that he would inherit it all day anyway, so no need to have a good education.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

I wouldn't work - but then I already know the things I would do with my time if I had the money...travel a lot, spend some time following the tennis tour around the world, invest, buy a house somewhere, return to uni and study some things that interest me, expanding my horizons...

No, I think for a few years at least I'd be more than capable of filling my time happily and productively.

I would probably still work part time. I would also demand more vacation for traveling. I am in love with my job, couldn’t totally give it up. At least for now

Yes. My finances are kinda secure (family) but now its time for me to prove myself. Though once I know I can earn money on my own, things would change to working for causes and personal interests.

Re: If you won millions of dollars and were single, would you continue to work?

I love what I do now but i'd drop it in a heartbeat. I'd still work but on my terms, right now I work to better my life if I got enough money that I don't have to think about me i'd work at something that benefited others and wouldn't require that I be up before noon and preferably had a liberal policy on showing up and the state in which i showed up. I'd have to do something, doing nothing kills your spirit, everyone needs a reason to get up.
