Re: Golf 2013 - Waiting for Augusta

The U.S. Open left a similar taste as the Olympic tennis last year. Both times one of the guys I hoped to win won, but I couldn't be happy as I hoped the runner-up to win so badly.

But a great result for Rose. And I've actually hoped Mickelson would win the British Open before the US Open, I just think the US Open title in that age would be his big dream after which he may not anymore be so hungry. The bad thing is that the British Open has been a bad event for Phil and he winning it seems unlikely.

Re: Golf 2013 - Waiting for Augusta

Hopefully Westwood can use this chance to win his first major. He's leading with two shots to Woods and Mahan after three rounds at the British Open.

And I wouldn't mind if Cabrera, Mickelson, or Jimenez won, even though maybe Mickelson and Jimenez are too far.

What's happened to McIlroy this year? Another missed cut. Disappointing.

I hope Westwood can win bud I sadly expect another near miss. Mahan, Moore or Johnson will likely take it now imo, nowadays these things often seem to land with one of the less merited US players.

They were a couple long before he made #1. And he made #1 very convincingly last year, winning 3 tournaments from 4 starts including a major. But since then - nada.

Westwood, Westwood....three strokes ahead an hour ago. One behind Scott now. Still not out of it, though.

Should be home and dry now. Can't see Westwood going three under for the last four.

Mickelson becomes the first man to reach five slams since 2000.

Seriously good back nine scorecard for Lefty. That's how you win coming from behind.

Re: Golf 2013 - Waiting for Augusta

This is sweet redemption for Phil Mickelson after coming second or tied for second for the 6th time 1 month ago at the U.S. Open he shoots an amazing 66 5 under par to take the British Open. Just amazing. Phil has had his share of final round flops but today he came up big while no one else did and that's what makes this 66 even more special. All the other leaders struggled but Mickelson owned this final round and he richly deserves his 5th major championship. And to do it at age 43 with the great depth on the worldwide golf tours and todays leaderboard must make this major title extra sweet for Lefty.

On a side note to win the Scottish Open and British Open in back to back weeks is astounding especially for a 43 year old who had not won in Europe for 20 years until last week.

Egalite!

Impressive to win in his worst major. He's got 35 top-10 finishes in majors, including this one, and only three of those are from the British Open!

My wish came true, against my expectations. I believe this win gave some extra years to Phil's career on top. After winning his most difficult major, he definitely wants to win the US Open, his only missing major.

Your wish did come true. That said I still wish Phil won the U.S. Open 1 month ago. The pressure on Phil at the U.S. Open next year with the career grand slam on the line will be massive.
