Re: Winter Sports Thread! 8 days until Vancouver - Medal predictions by AP.

They predicted a gold and 3 silvers for us. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Our realistic medal chances are Petra Majdič in cross country skiing, the classical sprint in particular, the sprint relay with Petra Majdič again, Tina Maze in giant slalom and perhaps in supercombined, slalom and super G too, but would need a lot of things to go her way for that to happen.

Decent chances are our downhill skiers Jerman and Šporn, outside chances are our snowboarders and Robert Kranjec in ski jumping, maybe in the team ski jumping event.

Oh yes they are but I don't really expect them to get any medals again.

Your ski jumping boys have been doing pretty well lately indeed, not only Kranjec so who knows.

At least Norway will get more than they did last time.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

As a host nation, we still have to win one gold (none in Montreal, none in Calgary), so one would already be an achievement. 10 appears to be realistic but all needs to go well.

If all goes as good as it can, curling and hockey could bring 4, Groves, Nesbitt, Klassen and Hughes could win multiple in long track skating, our short track team could also bring a couple. There is Heil in moguls, Anderson in snowboard. Ice dance is very competitive this year, but anything but gold would be a disappointment. Those are the ones who could win gold.

For medals potential in general, skeleton should bring in a few medals, so can women's bob. Alpine skiing is not out of the question, Osborne-Paradis is doing well this year and our women do pop up on the podium unexpectedly at big meetings, so one or two alpine medals can be projected. Medals are not out of the question for the rest of figure skating also and speed skating in general.

We will be top 3 on the medal count for sure, but Germany will be tough to beat at the top.

Re: Winter Sports Thread! 8 days until Vancouver - Medal predictions by AP.

Australia 0 gold? Surely we will get a gold out of either Begg Smith in Moguls, the womens aerials or Torah Bright in the halfpipe or am I being delusional?

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

I'm not whining just that I doubt we'll get 2 gold medals we'll get our share of medals, but we haven't anyone really dominating...

If Cologna manages to grab a medal it'd be our first Olympic medal in cross-country skiing since Grünenfelder in 1988

Yeah he probably won't win gold but anything can happen. You're such a doubter. That's the beauty of sport that the medals are not given out beforehand.
