Re: Winter Sports Thread! 2 months till Vancouver! WR's in SLC!

Just over a month to go.

Early gold medal contenders:

Shani Davis (speedskating) 1000 and 1500m
Sven Kramer (speedskating) 5000 and 10,000m
Martina Sablikova (speedskating) 3000 and 5000m
Linsey Vonn (skiing) Downhill and Super G
Austria (ski jumping team competition) The closest thing to a certain gold medal these games.

I like the Nordic Combined event this year. Manninen and Gottwald are back, and they're competing against the likes of Chappuis, Koivuranta, Moann, Spillane and Demong. Alle serious candidates for the gold.

Mens skiing is also going to be incredibly exciting. Nobody has been able to dominate a single event and there have been many different winners already this season.

Anyone thinks Bjoerndalen can win another gold medal? He won the most recent World Cup (I believe he now has over 90 world cup victories) and has a very good chace in the team competition. If they shoot well (being Norwegians, that's a big if) they should be able to hold off the Russians and the French. Bjoerndalen can arguably become the greatest wintersports athlete if he manages to win two more gold medals.

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

Re: Winter Sports Thread! Just over one month to Vancouver!

Bjørndalen is going to take the gold in the individual biathlon. I'm certain of it. Have you seen his recent series at the ranges? He's twice as fast as anyone else sometimes.

Russia is the biggest threat in the team event. With Bjørndalen on the third leg and Emil Hegle Svendsen on the last leg it's a good team. Only problem is the two first ones. Halvard Hanevold is slow in the track but fairly safe at the shooting range. Tarjei Bø is the opposite. Russia can't get as much as a minute ahead as they did in Ruhpolding recently.

Haha, check this out. Northug is a beast of a man. He will be the favourite in the cross country for sure.

I love watching this with Swedish commentary.

"The Norwegian is getting tired, there is a gap forming" he says with a very eager and positive voice.

20 seconds later.

Norway could do well in the ski jump but the competition there is immense.

Also cheering for Aksel Lund Svindal in the alpine events.

I like Cuche, but couldn't he have been a bit slower today.

Still for Šporn to come out of relatively nowhere and complete the run like he did today, was spectacular.

All but 2 or 3 of the Dutch (Nederland) medals have been won in speedskating!

Cuche has indeed been incredible this weekend!

Bjorndalen needs 3 more golds to equal the great Bjorn Daehlie.

I don't think so. His goal is sprint, pursuit and his fav > mass. I give all my cards on Swendsen.

And btw, your friend Moan find his best form at the right time

We'll see

Moan has a great form in the track now. If he can do a decent jump he might just be able to snatch a gold medal

Yep. No medals predicted for Estonia and most probably they're right.
