made my print debut in the college paper this week. a brief article on Patrick Berger for the "Forgotten Footballers" section. wasn't my idea. don't think anyone has really forgotten berger but I agreed to do it cos it was piss easy. doing a couple of longer features for the next edition. one on roy keane's struggles at ipswich and another on match-fixing. latter is a nightmare. could write a thesis on tennis alone but have to keep it to like 800 words and write it for a pretty clueless audience. I'll upload some of them if there's any interest. all pretty mediocre stuff but I'm just feeling my way in.
interesting stuff clydey. seems my course is a product of it's time. most of the focus is on providing skills to help you get a job when you're done. modules on page layout stuff, shorthand and news writing. no talk of morals so far. one of them worked with the Mail so I hope he wouldn't fucking dare.
Nice one. It's a very tough field to break into. Couple of my mates who got their BAs are struggling to get work. One of them, I think, is on the staff of the Daily Record. It's unpaid, though. He's writing shit for free around 2 years after getting his BA.
Yours sounds pretty similar to the first year of my BA, so I'm thinking it's the same level. We did shorthand, news writing, etc. We also had a law class on top of that. You will certainly get into ethics at some point. I just didn't like my lecturers, though. I ended up butting heads with one in particular. Real **** of a woman who would constantly boast about knowing George Galloway, ffs.
It can be a good laugh, though. Fuck me, one assignment had us rolling around on the floor. We were to look at pictures and come up with headlines. We ended up coming up with Arnie style puns for various natural disasters and tragedies. Completely insensitive, but funny as hell.
