Re: Classical and Opera lovers

The metric asymmetry and absolute unpredictability which reign throughout Stravinsky's works - and Petrushka and Pulcinella are no exceptions - have helped me to cope with my extreme absent-mindedness.

Thanks, PD.

Re: Classical and Opera lovers

Hmmmmm....what was life like before youTube?

I used to describe myself as an ABC fan. Anything But Classical. Until I was in the 5th Grade Orchestra and we got to play the pop version of Beethoven's Fifth. Our teacher/conductor encouraged us to dig deeper, and, I did. Fell in love with Classical.

But I still thought I hated Opera. Until I was about 12 and baking Christmas cookies with a family friend who had Lucia Di Lammermoor playing on the PBS radio station. The announcers took the time to explain what was in the upcoming segments (this was loooong before subtitles at performances) and the story just moved me. I've been in love with it ever since.

Hopefully, I have..and will continue to...expose my two young daughters to the wide array of music...including classical and opera. With any luck, I'll have someone to take me to such performances when I'm old and feeble. But before I get there, one of the things on my Bucket List is to visit LaScalla. For a performance of Carmen. Ahhhh......

Thanks to all of you who have posted favorite clips.

I love my girls.
