Agreed. I read the whole thread expecting it to be either entertaining or controversial, but it's not really either.
Perhaps I may make a controversial suggestion?
Let the materialists, hedonists and commercial enterprises take over the 10% or so of the period between December 23rd and January 1st that they don't already own.
Move the Christian celebration of Christmas to the week after Easter. Nobody knows the exact dates of Christ's birth or death, so it seems fitting to me that the religious year starts with his birth and finishes with his death and resurrection.
I'm now preparing to be shot at from all sides.
