Favourite Guitar Players

First is the guitar player, then the song who best summarizes his art, and after the album who includes that song

Peter Hammill - Meurglys III (VdGG: "World Record")
Richard Thompson - Shoot out the lights (Shoot out the lights)
Eric Clapton - Crossroads (Cream: "Wheels of fire")
Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower (Electric Ladyland)
Jimmy Page - In my time of dying (Physical graffiti)
Robert Fripp - Baby's on fire (Brian Eno: "Here come the warm jets")
Eddie Hazel - Maggot brain (Funkadelic: "Maggot brain")
Peter Green - Supernatural (John Mayall: "A hard road")
Neil Young - I'm the ocean (Mirrorball)
Ritchie Blackmore - Highway Star (Deep Purple: "Machine Head")

Post your favourites (if you want...)

Great idea!

I'll need some time to dig up mine but all these are surely worth mentioning. Eddie Hazel's is one of my long-time personal favourites. Absolutely FANTASTIC!

Slash

He rips it up in sweet child of mine (GUNS AND ROSES)

He wasnt just a showman, he truly was the real deal no matter how mainstream he was.

Re: Favourite Guitar Players

Slash is definitely one of the best, and there are too many songs to choose the best from. Maybe I´d pick November Rain or Nightrain as my personal favorites.

Eric Clapton -Layla

Eddie Van Halen - Ain´t talking ´bout love

And some Whitesnake stuff:

John Sykes - Still of the night

Those are a few that come to mind!

Re: Favourite Guitar Players

Some great contributions from you folks already!

I'll have to do quite a bit of research from my 300 Gigabits of music to be able to make out a top ten (obviously I have failed here), but here are two major guitar solo's that immediately popped to mind:

Steve Howe (Yes) - "Sound Chaser" from their Relayer-album - the vid is from a Yes show in 1975, so the sound is not quite optimal .
Erratic, pagan, a complete pandemonium on a Fender Telecaster, here. Starts around the 3:00-minute mark. Not for the faint-hearted.

For the Keyboard Freaks out there: an equally frantic solo by Pat Moraz follows thereafter. Now that one isn't for the faint-hearted either.

And, for contrast (I like contrasting styles! ) - the fellow who uploaded this song had to cut it into two parts, as the song is 15 minutes long! (like Genuine ProgLovers Love It )

Part 1

and, continued -

Part 2

Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) - "Even Less" from Porcupine Tree's *his* Stupid Dream-album. The full extended recording, sadly enough their record company doesn't allow amateure live recordings to be shown on YouTube (mine have been removed just three weeks ago! ), so the studio recording here - but that solo is just amazing (most of it in part 2, of course)...

Eclectic, melancholic, passionate, Floydian... in one word - BRILLIANT!

Hope ya like it!

Yup. But he has done quite a good job with Velvet Revolver as well. He's no fluke.

Re: Favourite Guitar Players

He's no fluke, but he plays mainstream shit.

A guitarist is what he plays.

He can be Yngwie Malmsteen, but if he plays punk rock, he's crap.
