Re: Amy:The world's hugest rabbit(Update:Benny wants to replace Amy as the biggest)

A 2.8ft rabbit who munches his way through £60 worth of food every week is bouncing his way into the record books.
Benny the Flemish Giant is vying for the title of world's longest rabbit, currently held at 2.6ft (81.5cm), by Amy, a Continental Giant who died in May.
And the two-year-old is on the right track to being crowned the title if his massive diet of vegetables, biscuits and treats is anything to go by.
Bouncing Benny, who needs at least 4ft of space to stretch his legs, has been living with owners Martin and Sharon Heather for the past year after being abandoned.

When Mr Heather saw him at Stadhampton Animal Sanctuary in Oxfordshire he begged his wife to let him take Benny home as a birthday present.
Mr Heather said: 'The staff at the sanctuary said he didn't really like people, but when I approached him he just snuggled right up to me.

'We always buy unusual birthday presents for each other and I asked Sharon if we could take him there and then.

'We had never seen a rabbit as big as him, but after the way he was Sharon agreed and since then we have loved having him at home.'
The couple say Benny is completely house trained and loves nothing more than nuggling up to the dog on the sofa.
He has the run of the family's home in Eynsham in Oxfordshire and even has a dog flap so he can get outside.

Benny also has his own specially built dog house to keep him dry.
The couple have three other normal sized rabbits who live in runs in their garden - but are nothing compared to mammoth Benny.

The Guinness World records stopped measuring animals weights after problems began with owners over-feeding their pets.
Mr Heather added: 'Benny goes outside to be with the other rabbits sometimes, but he just loves to lay with us on the sofa.

'He also gives kisses and says what he wants, if he wants treats he jumps up and down.

'He certainly chomps his way through a hell of a lot of food, but is very healthy, but does get treats sometimes.

'He enjoys broccoli, but his favourite snack are fig rolls, he absolutely loves them.'
Mr Heather said he was sure his pet was confused as he often found him acting like the family dog.

'It is a real pleasure getting up in the mornings and finding the dog on one end of the settee and the rabbit on the other,' he said.

'I am sure he is probably a bit confused because he is so big about whether he is a dog or a rabbit.

'Whatever his size, we love him to bits and he is certainly the best birthday present I have ever had.'

Guinness World records spokesman Amarillis Espinoza said: 'The longest rabbit is currently under research as we have had a couple of contenders.'
