Re: Topspin 3 - Anyone got it? Thoughts?

the tennis with best playability I played is Super Tennis from 1991 for Super Nintendo

TOPSpin 2 is good but cant compare to Super Tennis... all the surfaces seem very similar to me. u need timing in Super Tennis and much more factors that u dont need to handle on this modern tennis games

VT3 is a piece of schett. doesnt require too much skill to be a master in this game

Super Tennis phisics are great. bad luck that the graphics are from 1991 but the physics of the gama are pretty good.. Often I play Super Tennis actually vs Nando_L from MTF and I never bore of this game

I remember I played a match vs adee-gee a funny match. I dont remember exactly the score but I think it was 7-6 in the 3rd.. but it was very unplayable due too to great ammount of lag

hopefully this TS3 is good.
buying VT3 is throwing cash to the rubbish. why they dont have a multiplayer online service???

That was nice. I also have a soft spot for Virtua Tennis for the Sega Dreamcast--if only because I was able to select Jim Courier, whose specialty was "Various Shots."

I hope someone here buys TS3 for the Wii, so I know whether buy it. Naldo's given me cause for concern....

Oh I see. That's too bad. I wonder why it doesn't work online on PS3.

Yeah there's no online play for VT3 on the PS3, it was one of the main reasons I decided to buy Topspin 3.

I've got Virtua Tennis 3, but it's too arcade style for my liking (e.g. the diving, 0 unforced errors etc). I'm liking that Topspin takes much more skill, movement and timing are much more important. It's not the sort of game you can just pick up and be good at, it takes time. I think the graphics are better on Virtua Tennis, but these are good enough and I prefer the gameplay. It seems really slow at first but as you get better, you can see the improvements.

I also like silly little features like sweat patches appearing on clothes, clothes getting dirty if you're on clay etc....it adds a nice feel to it. Authentic clothing, racquets and stadiums are also good, shame they couldn't get Wimbledon and had to call it some ridiculous Irish name.

Only slight flaw is the risk shots, still a bit strange. Not really worth going for, and in my opinion they should be easier if you're in a better position in the rally. But overall it's good, haven't gone online yet but I hope there is a good worldwide ranking system.
I'd consider buying it, but I don't have a PS3 or 360. I'm still stuck on the ancient PS2.

Probably going to pick this up tomorrow. Tossing up between 360 and PS3, the ass picker is exclusive to the PS3.

Played something like 12 hours on it. It's all about placement and timing, once you master those things, the game is brilliant, you really have to adapt your play to your opponent, not easy to outplay anyone...

Re: Topspin 3 - Anyone got it? Thoughts?

Here are two online reviews I found on the game. Not that there opinions should matter too much, as tastes vary from person to person.

Ign.com, gave the game a 7.8/10:

Videogamer.com gave this game an 8/10:

Hope this is helpful.

Re: Topspin 3 - Anyone got it? Thoughts?

Would this be the right place to advertise... if anyone wants an online game against me (ranked or unranked) just post here or send me a PM or whatever (as long I'm online here of course.. or you might be waiting a while ).

Anyhow, i do like the game... it's much harder to master, kind of like really playing tennis, I wouldn't recommend it to people who are just looking for a relaxing, fun way to pass time... it can be intense!

I've only had it for a day but so far it's pretty good I guess. The movement is way more difficult than the last two though, or maybe it's because I suck at it.

Re: Topspin 3 - Anyone got it? Thoughts?

Had a really frustrating first few hours with this game but finally I understood what was going on with the controls and fell in love after that.

If you've played a Top Spin game before this actually controls similarly despite all the hype about the new control scheme. You power up your shots by holding the shot button well in advance (moving into positon for your shot while holding the button) and you player "locks on" to the ball, and you simply release the button to swing when the ball bounces in front of you. It's all about charging the shot up well in advance, getting into positon (with the help of the lock-on/movement assist the game provides automatically) and then releasing the shot button when the ball bounces. I was assuming the timing was more to do with waiting until the ball arrives next to your body and attempting to match the swing to that but it doesn't work that way, it's all keyed off the bounce of the ball so you just focus on that. How well you are positioned determines how well you will strike the ball.

The player lock-on also helps you get to balls that you wouldn't otherwise be able to if you weren't locked on by sprinting your player to the ball. An example of that would be getting pulled wide off the court to hit a shot and then pressing the shot button and moving back to cover the open court and releasing the button when the ball bounces even if you aren't there yet - the game sprints you into position to get to the ball your opponent hits to the open court much faster that you would move if you weren't holding the shot button, basically a running shot. Once you get the way the lock-on works and timing the swing to the bounce of the ball this game goes from being a clumsy experience to a game of crisp shots and crazy angles (especially when using the top spin button). Good times!

Fuck this game is hard. I can't serve hard at all, every single risk serve I try goes out.
