Serge Gainsbourg at Hollywood Bowl. The highlight was Jean-Claude Vannier conducting Melody Nelson.

Josh Groban at the HMH in Amsterdam on Sunday. It was really great, Josh sounded amazing and he was so funny. I hope he comes back soon.

Antimatter at Helmond's De Lakei, September 30th.
Here's a short vid I made of that experience:

Fantastic performance.

I can't really remember (may have been The New Pornographers), but if everything goes according to plan I'll be seeing PJ Harvey and Jean-Michel Jarre (dreadfully retro, I know, but "Oxygene" was the first- ever album I bought and he still knows how to put on a good show...) in a two-day span later this month.

And Zappanale 2012, obviously, if I have the time and can afford the travelling costs. It won't beat the 2009 lineup, however. The gloriously inventive Acid Mothers Temple ( no really, "La Novia" is that good, creatively speaking. Reminiscent of the Krauts, Amon Düül in particular, although not as subliminally fantastic as Can). They featured alongside old prog favorites Guru Guru and Gong, plus a handful of former Zappa collaborators. Nerd heaven, my mind is still reeling. Best festival lineup ever.

Interesting. I saw this band on a very small, intimate stage in 2002, a student festival in Oslo no less. I'm sure no more than 200 (lucky) people were present in the audience this night either. They were one of my favorite bands at the time. The last album of theirs I bought was "All is Dream".

I miss Prague now however, first visited in 1997, enjoyed it more than any holiday ever, but haven't been there since 2008.

"Let England Shake" is such a great conceptual album about death, war, imperial history and underlying conflict, especially relevant considering the riots two months ago. Her lyrical imagery on this album is quite genuinely chilling:

Death was in the staring sun,
Fixing its eyes on everyone.
It rattled the bones of the Light Horsemen
Still lying out there in the open

As we, advancing in the sun
As we, advancing every man
As we, advancing in the sun
Sing "Death to all and everyone."

[What's wrong with my Anne Frank Zappa avvy, btw? ]

Saw Avril Lavigne at the Hammersmith Apollo at the end of September

Also saw Jay Sean a few days after that.
