School me on reputation

I never cared for the reputation thing on this forum. I've been here for a year now and I discovered it relatively recently. What's that good for?

If I have pretty positive reputation, does it help me somehow? If everybody's giving me negative reputation, should I care? Is it putting me in a disadvantageous position on this forum?

Thanks for explaining :)

No I just think the system is in place so that users can either give you a pat on the back or a slap on the wrists after a good/bad post.. I find it quite nice when people leave me positive feedback, its just a friendly gesture. And some of the bed reps can be quite funny as well.. :p

reputation is more for giving credit to a good post or dispraising a bad one
people use it also for leaving a message to someone, a smiley or whatever

dont bother much

I would say that right now...the reputation system isn't quite important...it doesn't really matter if you've got good (green dots) or bad (red dots) reputation.
There was a time when it cared.... somehow...lol ....there was a red army too....

I think we had lots of fun before with it...now it's just another way to greet your friends or insult your "enemies" ;)

I basically figured out that it's a quick way to let someone know that I like / dislike his post, but I was wondering if there was some other use of it. For example lot of negative feedback = some restrictions etc.

So now I know that it's not really important.

Well, the simplicity of the rep system's been explained well enough, but in relation to these questions:

"If everybody's giving me negative reputation, should I care? Is it putting me in a disadvantageous position on this forum?"

then it might, if the bar below your name is actually red. A poster like azza has a high arse clown credibility, even by those who haven't seen him post, simply because his reputation is always in the negative. As for restrictions or anything of that sort, then nah - it's not really taken that seriously :p.

safin-rules-no1 is MTF's official bad rep distributor since its.like.that has been banned

reps from posters with less than 100 posts can only give gray reps
