Although violence is our natural instinct seeking revenge, it actually works against us in the long run, creating resentment and more violence. Civilized punishments tend to create more harmonious societies.
Revenge?

the guy was harassing a woman in the train, fighting him is not taking revenge... is defending the woman.

Going after him now would be stupid.

Re: Racism in Barcelona

If i was this girl I would clearly have wanted this sissy guy to help.
No need to be a super hero, just to be human and react while seeing a man hitting a woman.

Depends on the drug. Cocaine doesn't impair coordination much in most doses.

That said, racism is a disgrace. And sadly, there is more in Spain than in many other countries, because the lack of immigration until recent times.

BTW Glenn, why do you say that? As far as I know, and again, due partly to our longstanding xenophobia, Spain used to be actually more racially uniform than other countries like France, Germany or the UK. The expulsion of the jews and North Africans during the XV and XVI centuries, plus the negligible immigration due to the fact that we've always been poor, would be the causes of this.

Thank goodness recently people have decided to immigrate to our country, and create some diversity
Maybe in the last century yes, but if you start from the Roman times, many waves of immigration happened in Spain.

Yes, I'm sure he will learn the lesson with your example of civility, and be a good citizen afterwards.

Now, seriously.

the right thing to do was kicking his ass, and then get the police as soon as possible, because that scumbag deserves jail time.

Pure violence only brings out more violence. Then the guy gets freed, find his other racist friends and spank more immigrants. That's not how civilised people should act.

I don't ask people to make justice with their own hands, but to stand up for someone who needs help. In this case a teenage foreign girl being hit by a racist man.

There is nothing uncivilized about that.

Re: Racism in Barcelona

U know, whatever....what is done is done.....things already happened.

What is indignant is the fact, there has been no justice so far. That animal is still out there in the streets, acting like a challenging rock star in front of the media, without any sign of regret; while the victim is the one who is hiding (this last thing, totally understandable)....

Aren't all love stories destined to fail?

Re: Racism in Barcelona

I also read about this a while ago. Sick fuck :/.. or sick fucks is probably the right term, as that boy/man is just sitting there doing nothing.. no matter how outnumbered I'd be, I would still do something if I saw a guy beating a girl. I'd much rather prefer that it's me getting beat up than the 16 year-old girl sitting in front of me.

Damn, stuff like this really makes me feel depressed. And at the sime time pissed

EDIT: And GlennMirnyi, what the hell is your problem? You honestly think being afraid is an excuse for doing nothing? I'm sure I'd be shocked as well, and maybe even afraid.. but that shouldn't stop anyone who actually CARES from interfering. I mean c'mon.. it's a girl. And youre a guy. It should be obvious how you react.

Re: Racism in Barcelona

That is awful, what a disgusting person. Its a real shame that the train was so empty, because I would have hoped that if there were more people on there, they would have stopped that guy, and beat the living shit out of him. But I think most people these days are too selfish or scared to help someone like that. Even if there was a group of guys, they could have confronted him and pulled him away and threw him off the train, with minimal violence. People like that deserve permanent disability though and don't deserve to walk the streets ever again, scum like this needs to be cleaned from the world.
