Computer models for Hurricane Dean

I hope everyone in Dean's cone of possiblity is keeping a watchful eye on the Gulf of Mexico. Stay safe, please. And let's just all hope that it dies out before it hits land, as improbable as that seems right now.

My sister's boyfriend is in the Caymans with his family right now, and they have given them the order to evacuate the islands.

Unfortunately most of the airlines are saying they won't fly out now, so I'm not sure what they're going to do.

Kingston is now at the northern wall of the eye about 40 miles away. Dean is unleashing it's full power over the city. The photos we will see tomorrow will be nasty. I expect the worst. Long time ago when a hurricane has hit an island with it's full power.

Re: Computer models for Hurricane Dean

That's just horrible. Mexico and Belize, especially the latter, don't have the necessary infrastructure to deal with this. Then again, who does?

And it's not only scary for the amount of people that could be hurt, but there are priceless Mayan ruins in the path of the storm. It's very unfortunate.

Luckily my sister's boyfriend managed to get on a flight to Florida chartered by the Cayman's government.

Aid organizations, for those fortunate enough to be able to spare a little money-

www.foodforthepoor.org
www.worldvision.org
www.icrc.com

I'm sure there are others, like Doctors without Borders or Catholic Charities who might also be providing help. I can say that I've been through my share of hurricanes, and you can't imagine just how good that hot meal from Red Cross or Salvation Army tastes after you've been eating peanut butter sandwiches for 10 days while your electricity is out. The hard part is just starting for these poor souls.
