Smile Great News For UK Based NFL Fans!

Who have Sky.

It's about time Sky bought up the whole package. Everything channel 5 and NASN had, now Sky have got their hands on. I'm especially pleased about the late Sunday game. Before we had to wait for C5 to finish the Baseball season before getting the games deep into the season.

Now we'll get all those games from the start of the season. And good to see Total Access back after NASN lost the rights.

Sky confirms NFL programming

For the first time Sky Sports will screen pre-season NFL games, starting with the traditional curtain-opener – the Hall of Fame game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints on 5th August – as NFL fans in the UK get set for a record-breaking season of NFL programming.

In addition to the six preseason matchups, from the start of August fans can look forward to daily NFL Network programming on Sky, including NFL Total Access – the NFL Network’s flagship news program – and the award-winning America’s Game series that focuses on all 41 Super Bowl Champions. NFL Total Access will be shown every night in a regular timeslot between 9 and 12pm.

Other NFL Network shows that viewers can anticipate watching once the 2007 regular season kicks off include Playbook – a weekly one-hour special looking at the X’s and O’s of the upcoming weekend’s games.

Also available on Sky Sports each week will be two shows new to NFL Network in 2007; Top 10 – a weekly show in which NFL Network mines the NFL Films library for a fresh look on some of the best debates in football history, and Who Is? – a topical show focusing on a burning NFL-related question each week.

Before those shows hit our screens there are six opportunities to watch live football and see how teams have improved in the off-season through the draft and free agency. The preseason games on Sky include a rematch of Super Bowl XLI between Indianapolis and Chicago, a chance to see Randy Moss play one of his first games as a New England Patriot, as well as a look at Reggie Bush’s New Orleans Saints.

Sky’s regular season coverage begins with the annual NFL kick-off match between Super Bowl champions Indianapolis and the New Orleans Saints on Thursday 6th September.

Once the 2007 NFL regular season gets underway there will be more football than ever before on Sky, including more than ten hours of football each Sunday. For the first time, Sky will show a tripleheader every Sunday night through the regular season as they take on live coverage of Sunday Night Football from the start of the 2007 season with the opening weekend Sunday night game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

That means that, starting from 6pm, Sky will show a pair of back to back Sunday afternoon games - with two alternate games available as an interactive option behind the red button. Then, an hour and a half after the conclusion of the second game, Sky picks up NBC’s live coverage of Sunday Night Football, which includes some of the best fixtures of the season.

The live football action on Sky does not stop there, though, as regular hosts Kevin Cadle and Nick Halling, and a selection of guests, return to your screens late on Monday for Sky’s new Monday night football coverage, bringing the total of games available on Sky each week to six.

With 125 live NFL games available on Sky through the NFL season, there will be more live American football on UK TV in 2007 than Premiership football. Included among Sky’s selection of games from the 2007 regular season will be the historic matchup on October 28th between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants, brought to you from Wembley Stadium.

Sky will also continue to cover all the additional games, including the traditional Thanksgiving Day tripleheader, Thursday and Saturday games that take place late in the season, as well as Pro Bowl live from Hawaii in February 2008.

The NFL postseason will also air on Sky, with every game exclusively live in the UK, culminating in live coverage of Super Bowl XLII from University of Phoenix Stadium on February 3rd, 2008.

Karl Baumann, Sky Sports’ producer for American Football, said: “With a record number of live games on Sky, plus the historic clash between the Dolphins and Giants at Wembley, there’s never been a better time to be an NFL fan in the UK and Ireland.”

Negotiations for NFL terrestrial coverage are currently ongoing and will be completed next month. Look out for further information on nfluk.com during August.

The Patriots are locks to win atleast 14 games, not to mention the Super Bowl.
