Re: Shanghai Masters Thread

Well I'm just focusing on one match at a time. I think R1 against Bye is going to be a tough proposition, Fed could be rusty and Bye is a tricky opponent.

Once you've experienced Roger Federer, nothing is ever the same again...

Roger in the Golden State Warriors locker room earlier, as the NBA play some international pre-season games.

Cheers for the thread!

Draw isnt too bad, I can see a deep run here if Roger is playing with his early 2017 hard court form

Re: Shanghai Masters Thread

Fed should win this tournament if he's healthy. He'll have his hands full in his first match but if he gets through that in relative ease then he's the firm favourite for the title.

Re: Shanghai Masters Thread

I think he'll be in a fairly better form than at the USO, if he plays near to his Querrey-Kyrgios level at LC he should have a serious shot here.

We'll have to wait and see how he's feeling.

Between this and WTF, I prefer WTF but hopefully both. Am I too greedy?

Re: Shanghai Masters Thread

Not a terrible draw but it certainly has its pitfalls. Schwartzman and Goffin have been in excellent form lately and are good enough to punish a rusty Federer, despite being fairly comfortable match-ups for him. OTOH Zverev seems to be a difficult match-up on hard courts, Fed's ground game (and particularly his slice) will need to be firing. Luckily for Roger his turkey should be waiting in the final.

Bye is yet to win a main draw match in 2017, it's unlikely that will change against Federer.

Re: Shanghai Masters Thread

Federer again seems to be too much in the publicity mode, like Montreal.
Please pull your socks up !!
Shanghai has always been medium fast, almost at the boundary of fast.
Paris and WTF were seriously sped up last year, Paris by 33% and WTF by almost 20%.
So all three were in the medium fast zone. That's the fastest you can get in the current state of affairs.
Too bad Fed missed them last year. Hope they say the same.

So surfacewise it's Fed's to lose. He has to get his body and game together.

EDIT: Plus indoors.

Re: Shanghai Masters Thread

By game, it is largely serve.
At Wimbledon fed was serving around 70% first serves winning 75-85% of those points.
He had a comparatively bad serving day against Berdych, but 1st serve% was still 62% and he made up for it by winning 75% on second serve.

At Us Open he was nowhere close except the Kohli match.
If Fed serves >65% on first serve, it will be very difficult for anyone.

Goffin is surely not a pushover. He has won two titles back to back, and will be very confident
Historically he never had enough weapons to trouble Fed, hope that trend continues.
I think the Schwartzman Fed played earlier, is not the same either. Let's hope for an entertaining event!!
And Fed gets his revenge on Sascha.
