Roger Federer and Amelie Mauresmo received the International Tennis Writers Association's Player of the Year and Ambassador for Tennis awards on Tuesday.

Federer won both honors for the third consecutive year.

The top-ranked Swiss star won a tour-high 12 titles in 2006, including three Grand Slams: Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and Australian Open.

Mauresmo won her first major titles this season, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

ITWA also praised the players for their efforts to bring new fans to tennis and to promote the sport.

Not surprised. Roger spends more time than any other player giving interviews, in 4 different languages!

Congrats It's great that Roger receives such awards year by year, but who would deserve them more?

Re: Federer receives tennis writers' awards

This isn't the same thing as the 'ATP Player of the Year award', is it? Not that Federer should have any trouble winning that award.

I think Roger says three and a half. It depends on the dialect, but I'm told that to speakers of standard High German, Swiss German is incomprehensible upon first hearing, although they can adapt to it fairly quickly, without of course being able to speak it.

A Swiss-german can easily speak "regular" German, but a Gerrman won't understand a word in Swiss-german language (let alone speaking it). Based on the same language, but clearly different when it comes to speaking...
