Miami 2017, Roger going for the **Sunshine-Double**

Thought I would get this thread going, I think the one and only tourny thread I opened was Halle back in 2013 which ended up being his one and only title that year so hoping for 2/2 win rate!

Roger will be going for his 3rd "Sunshine-Double", having completed this feat back-to-back in 2005 and 2006. Those are also Roger's only Miami titles as well so he will need to break an 11 year drought if he wants to lift the trophy again.

Projected draw:

R1: Bye
R2: Tiafoe W - 7:6 6:3
R3: JM Del Potro W - 6:3 6:4
R4: RBA W - 7:6 7:6
QF: Berdych W 6:2 3:6 7:6
SF: Kyrgios W 7:6 6:7 7:6
F: Nadal W 6:3 6:4

There are a few people in GM going on about how this is another difficult draw, especially with JMDP so early. But I don't think the Argentinian will trouble Fed much.

Hoping for a QF here so that will cancel out the QF points dropped from Monte Carlo in April as I don't expect him to play there. SF would be great. I think the biggest threat to Roger if he goes deep here could be a Kyrgios SF, which would make up for the W/O Roger had in IW.

Thanks for opening the thread

Del Potro? Difficult for a R3. But should be interesting to see, provided both make it there.

Annoyed to see him draw del potro because I want del potro catch a bit of a break and goes further up in the ranks. But I'm okay with the draw otherwise, seems good.

I think this is a tough draw and a tough tournament for him. I see anything here as a bonus, QF would be amazing. JMDP is the earliest obstacle, normally Fed has the measure of him but this tournament is one of the few where it could go either way. We'll also be seeing how Federer's energy levels are after winning IW.

I'd like to see Federer give everything here as he'll have a good couple of weeks off at least after this, maybe a lot more if he skips MC.

Re: Miami 2017, Roger going for the **Sunshine-Double**

Federer does well on difficult draws. Anyways, is Miami worth too much trouble?

Depends on how hungry he is to get that nr1 spot at end of the year. It would be the cherry on the cake indeed, but it is not worth arriving at Wimbledon with anything less than a fully rested, energized and healthy 36-year-old-bar-one-month body.

He should compensate by only playing one claycourt master series. Don't travel too much.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

Federer starts on Saturday. Bottom draw starts first. Good on the organisers since both the finalists from IW are heading the top draw. I am hopeful of a good showing. Good showing meaning a QF or a SF appearance. I don't know about you guys, but I am eagerly looking forward to JMDP vs RF. Will be a treat. I don't mind a Federer loss cause I like JMDP a lot. So let's see.

Juan Martin may very well be tied for my 3rd fave player with Stan, but I'm afraid I would not be happy to see Roger lose, even to such a likeable guy. Still, I have no expectations here, given Federer's up and down history with the tournament.

Looking good so far, a couple of shanks notwithstanding. Some excellent play by the youngster on a couple of points, enjoyable match so far.

3-3, no real threat to anybody's serve so far. Fed has only lost one point on serve, Tiafoe three.
