Brutal draw for Federer

Projected path:

Robert/Sela, Johnson, Nadal, Djokovic, Nishikori/Murray

Ruins

Re: The Indian Wells thread, Come on Roger!

Horrible draw for Federer...Will be quite an achievement if he makes it through Nadal and Djokovic back to back. I thought of going to Indian Wells for the semis and the finals this time around. Guess that's got to be put on hold for now (atleast till the Qfs). That being said I had zero hopes for a victory in Melbourne and look what happened. Playing Nadal and Djokovic early may not be a bad thing you know.....

Re: The Indian Wells thread, Come on Roger!

Thanks for opening the thread, good work on the AO thread, hopefully you're a good luck charme and he goes deep in the very challenging draw. A 3rd victory in a row vs. Nadal in IW would be very sweet and I think if he plays well, he'll have his chances. I loved their 2012 match.

I specifically bought a month of TennisTV to watch Fed in Dubai/IW/Miami and in Dubai I feel I didn't get my money's worth. I will cancel it again after Fed left Miami.

Fed sneakily trying to escape the fans for his practice with Haase, gotta wonder why?

He looked terrible as well in practice, not sure if it means anything, shanking balls like no tomorrow.

"The point is that to root for Federer is to root for a Platonic ideal. It is like rooting for truth. (...) Detractors who said, “Don’t you get tired of him winning all the time?” were missing the point. Every victory was a validation. No one gets bored by the sun coming up in the morning."

That sounds worrying. Hope he's all right. Maybe just jetlag?

Roger Federer Unfazed By Difficult Indian Wells Draw, Which Could Include Nadal and Djokovic | ATP World Tour | Tennis
Quote:
“It doesn't matter. I've gone through so many draws. I came here to Indian Wells to play against those guys. So it doesn't matter if it's a semi, a final or actually a fourth round,” Federer said during his pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday.

“It's good to be back here and still on the comeback,” said Federer, who's playing in his third tour-level event of the season.

“I'm enjoying practice more than ever and can't wait for the matches to roll around.”

If Federer advances past Nadal and the seeds play out on the bottom portion of the draw, Federer will face Djokovic, who's looking to extend his 17-match win streak in the desert and claim his fourth consecutive Indian Wells title. But del Potro, Zverev and Kyrgios also loom in the Serbian's section.

“Most of the guys you won't even see because they'll eliminate each other. So from that standpoint the first message I got was Dudi Sela or Stephane Robert,” Federer said of his potential second-round opponents, following a first-round bye.

“Then I heard that Rafa was in my section, you're like OK, and then you hear that maybe Novak's in your section and you're like OK, fine.”

Helping Federer stay relaxed is that winning feeling he's still carrying from Down Under. The 18-time Grand Slam champion said it feels like his five-set win against Nadal happened just yesterday.

“I still feel like I'm on Cloud Nine,” Federer said. “Things are terrific, and I'm happy if I made a lot of people happy, because I know I'm not just playing for myself these days. There's so much more to it.”

IW 2017 - It's the first time ever that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have been drawn in the same quarter boat.

Re: The Indian Wells thread, Come on Roger!

A bit of humor.

"Let there be green, Roger said."

"And there was green. And it was good."

Notice the slight wrinkles around his eyes and on the forehead. Almost makes him even more handsome/distinguished.
