Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

What else do you want to get out of this year?

By winning this, I have even less pressure I would think. It gave me a totally different outlook on the season. I dont have to overplay. Ive got a month here, so really relax, take my time. When I play I want to enjoy it. That seemed like the right philosophy, going into Australia. These last years on tour, I want to make the most of it. Ill pick the tournaments where I feel like I have the best chance at doing well, and then well see what happens. I'll play Dubai in a month, then Indian Wells and Miami (in March). I probably wont play too much on clay. Ill play the French Open and after that play grass, Stuttgart, Halle, and Wimbledon, then well see. That would already be a dream if my body can sustain all of that until July.

This was from a TIME interview.

Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

Even though Fed has declined on clay and appears to be quite weaponless while playing on the dirt, I do hope he plays at least a couple of clay tournaments including the French Open. I've always enjoyed watching Federer on clay and still do even though I know that he has very little chance of winning RG and any of the clay masters.

Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

I am surprised Federer's added Miami to his schedule. It's never been the best of tournaments for him and he's mostly decided to skip it over the years. I think he'll eventually give it a miss if he goes the distance at Indian Wells. ( which I hope he does since I am planning to go for the semis and the finals)

If he plays Miami and reaches QF or more, Montecarlo should be avoided

Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

I don't think he is going to play MonteCarlo. I would prefer something like Estoril or Istanbul then Rome and Roland Garros. But Estoril/Istanbul are optional of course

I'd rather have him play MC over a clay MM.

MC and Madrid should enough, if he gets knocked out early in Madrid he can go to Rome.

Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

This site says he won't play Monte Carlo:
ATP - Les meilleurs Monte-Carlo sauf Federer et Nishikori #MonteCarlo #ATP #Monaco #Federer #Nishikori #Nole - TennisActu

It says the tournament director will hold a WC for Federer till the last moment (as ususal) -- so I guess the reason that they can declare that he's not playing there is because he's not on the official entry list?

Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

Monte Carlo makes a lot of sense, though: it's early enough in the season that he can adjust the rest of his plans accordingly, depending on his results.

not sure if this means anything or just that he's automatically entered & hasn't withdrawn yet.

Re: Predict Federer's 2017 schedule

As Madrid is a mandatory event, he will be automatically entered so this doesn't mean he will definitely play Madrid. Personally I rather he plays MC and Rome as they are much better tournaments and Fed has never won them.
