Andy can be bad, but I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt. He does a lot of good things that don't get noticed in the GM. I just don't like his tennis and his behavior at times. His coach is just a pure asshole. Great quote on Roger and very true.

Andre was sensible and true unlike Hewitt's crap.

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

I just really want to say these coz I'd read many who critisize Rogi's fans who enjoy "bashing" Andy recently. I really don't understand where that came from? I hardly see the fans here even mention Andy in this forum (since I joined), heck not even in GM, actually not even in Rogi's official site. I mean look at who here had actually made so much of a comment in even the recent "famous 5 minutes tirade" thread of Andy though I think a lot really don't appreciate that type of behaviour? Or maybe some might misunderstood "comments/critics" as "bashing" sometimes?

Personally I might not enjoy Andy's game and behaviour on court, I really couldn't care less about others from him. But if there's his match on tv, I'll watch it just to try getting something out of his game that I might have missed...I too believe in giving people benefit of doubts.

Of course then there'll always be one or two bad eggs in the basket that lead people into easy and ignorant conclusion. Anyway, just thought of doing some justice to many nice and humble Rogi's fans here I'd met who are far away from the arrogant/bashing fans some had come to think them as.

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

Further comments from Andre during his interview on Saturday:

"You know, I don't view Roger similar to Pete. I mean, I'm dealing with subtleties out there. I find them to be different. I find Pete's serve to be much bigger, but Roger to be a better returner. I think Roger's a better groundstroker, but I think Pete's a better volleyer.
You know, when you sort of take X's and O's, you give some to this guy, some to this guy, at the end of the day it's champions against champions. Who knows how it's going to come out.
But I think he's a tremendous talent. I think he has a great game to watch. It's no surprise to me at all that he can win in today's game with his style. He does everything really good, and does a few things great. It's a great game.
He has a game that he can play from the back of the court and play with the best from back there. Then he has a game that, you know, if he plays a guy that doesn't quite return well, that chips the return, tends to back up, that he can come forward and sort of take him out of the equation.
He has a game that can sort of beat different guys different ways. That's what you need to win major tournaments. That's what you need to be at the top spot. And he definitely has that.
There's a lot of matches through the year, you know. There are going to be times you play guys, that if you make it harder on yourself than necessary, it takes its toll. And Roger has a great game to sort of avoid those days from happening. "

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

James Blake as classy as he always has something nice to say about Rogi

Quotes from his interview about Rogi :

"Q. If you had to pay some bucks to see any one player in tennis, who would that player be?
JAMES BLAKE: Right now, Roger Federer, for sure. He's incredible. He's taken out some incredible players in Pavel, Gonzalez, somehow making it look easy. There aren't many people that can do that. He's lost once this year. I think the only person he's lost to in the last maybe six months is Henman. That's just amazing. He's beaten top players, not so highly ranked players. He's beating everyone almost routine. Incredible, what he's doing.

Q. When you see the grace of his game, fluidity, what goes through your mind?
JAMES BLAKE: I hope he's on the other side of the draw.
No, it's just great to watch. Like you said, it's something that's worth paying to see. In my mind he's the most talented guy in the world. You know, there's so many things that go into being No. 1 in the world, not that I can speak from experience, but I think there's so many things, the mental game, fitness, the being confident enough to hit your shots when it gets close, the dealing with the pressure of being No. 1, everyone gunning for you, playing their best match against you. Right now he's handling that so well.
I don't think necessarily always the most talented player in the world is going to be No. 1. Right now I think he is. I think it's good for tennis to see such a graceful player, such a good sportsman at No. 1 in the world.

Q. In a way it's good he doesn't have a boomer serve?
JAMES BLAKE: Yeah. But the thing is, I think he does have a pretty big serve when he wants to hit it. He just mixes it up better than the other guys that have serves like his. He can hit it 130, then the next serve -- when I played him in the US Open, I think his fastest serve was around 130, 131, but his slowest first serve was about 88 miles an hour. He can hit that heavy kicker away, just pull you off the court. He hits it so well, you get breakpoint, you still feel at his mercy. You don't know what he's going to do because he can go anywhere with it.

Really nice words from James... and I also remember what credit he gave Roger after the defeat last year USO

I'll definitely pay to see Roger play if he is within reach No question. Roger, hope sometime soon you'll do us a favour here

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

Mardy had said quite a bit on Rogi in his interview, this is more on the "human" (as how Rogi likes to put it ) part :

Q. He was talking to us that some guys come up and talk to him in the locker room. He seemed to enjoy that. Have you had some banter, chatted at all?
MARDY FISH: Sure, yeah. He's a fun guy. You know, he never seems like he's down. He's a very approachable guy, that's for sure. He likes to joke around. He's always laughing and stuff. Yeah, he's very easy to joke around with

This is great to hear such nice words fr the other players about Rogi!

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!

"Pero, con todos mis respetos para Rafa, Federer tiene más talento." - Marat Safin
"Pero para mí el mejor es Roger Federer. / For me, the best is Roger Federer." - D. Nalbandian
"He's the best sportsman, I think, in the world. He has a lot of humble." - Rafael Nadal
"He's so charismatic." - Marcos Baghdatis

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

Some compliments from Justine! I love them both so enjoy

Q. Both you and Federer have only lost one match each this year. Do you watch him play?

JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE: A lot, yeah.

Q. Do you appreciate his game?

JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE: Him and Agassi are my favorite players. I think I watch them a lot. I watched the match this afternoon. And I learned a lot of things. I'm very impressed the way Federer is playing right now. The confidence he got, I think now he is the best for sure. He's playing unbelievable tennis. He believes in himself.
It's going to be tough for the others, I mean, to come back on him in the ranking. I think that he's going to have a pretty good season if he keeps going on this way.

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

I had watched few matches of Pavel lately and grew to like him. Funny guy too. Here's what he has to say about having to play Rogi so many times this year :

Q. Are you sick of seeing his name on your side of the draw?

ANDREI PAVEL: I get a lot of shit, I'm telling you that, from all the players. They always go, "Oh, okay, all right... This week," so...

But, you know, what can I do?

Q. Have you said anything meant to be funny to Roger when you pass him in the hallway?

ANDREI PAVEL: Of course. I always go like...(gesturing).

But, you know, I think -- you cannot write that (smiling).

Q. What does he say?

ANDREI PAVEL: He's a very cool guy. He's pretty, you know -- he laughs. I mean, I will do the same thing, I guess, you know.

I really like this quote from him lol :

Q. How old are your kids?

ANDREI PAVEL: My daughter, she's gonna be five in July. My son is gonna be two in June, so...

My wife, you don't want to know about (laughing).

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

It might surprise you , but I don't think Andre is a good judge of
Roger's game, simply because Andre's game is very one-dimensional (Great though)

Although he did notice that Roger's a great returner , as himself

This is a great thread btw

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

Ex-player G. Forget after Federer defeated Clement in D.C:

"Federer served incredibly well and didn't give a chance to Arnaud (Clement).
He served like Sampras at his best.
"

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

Goran Ivanisevic:" I respect everybody, but there are only two guys that… there`s one genius, complete genius is Federer, who is different. And there`s another guy, but he is a lil bit more crazier, you know, is Safin. You know he is … Russian. Roddick is more power, he is only power. Federer is two steps in front of everybody, then is Safin and then is the rest, the rest of the guys."

Marat Safin - always the one and only
