Yeah, sad to see him lose obviously, but he showed great fight to take this to five. Could have definitely done with more free points on serve, but considering the draw and lengthy QF, good effort.

Must say to lose to Murray seems to hurt more than anyone else.

it's just the way he lost the 5th set after fighting so hard for it that makes this so painful.

Yeah, I know. If he'd lost to Tsonga it would probably have sucked a little bit less.

I can't help to wonder how this tournament would've ended if Djokovic and Federer swapped draws

Pretty sure Roger would be in the final.

That we will never know. Would have been better, obviously, but it wasn't to be this time either. He hasn't been lucky with the draw in a slam for a while.

Things really didn't line up for him this tournament. Horrible draw and the weather change before the semi that made the court ridiculously slow.

I think all credit to Fed for managing to extend this to 5 sets, really, considering that his first serve decided to stay at home (pathetic number of aces by his standards). As soon as I realised it was absent, I thought he was never likely to win this, especially given Murray's level of play. I was expecting 4 sets, TBH.

Hugs all round, and I hope Murray can do better in the final.

Hopefully this kind of matches helps to keep him motivated. He's still very much a contender against these younger players

Re: ♕ 2013 Australian Open ♕ - SF loss to Murray 4-6 7-6(5) 3-6 7-6(2) 2-6

I'm extremely proud of what Roger did, and I would like Fedfans to feel that as well.

I'm not sad at all, I'm even happy and above all very proud, the only thing which makes me sad is those people's reactions.

That Fed managed to take it to 5 sets winning two tie-breaks is nearly a miracle, and it was only possible by his cleverness and fight.

He had to fight in everyone of his games, and he did it greatly.

Those who think that Fed has played bad are absolutely wrong, he played greatly, just these cold conditions don't suit him at all, it's good for players who have a strong arm and hit flat, not for him who uses half-volleys, shots on the run, spin, is a prestidigitator, not a guy who relies on his arm's strength to hit his forehand especially.

Murray played very well, but he should have won in 3 easy sets if he had had Roger's cleverness and focus.

Murray at the moment has the physical strength in his arm to really hit through the ball and also serves very well.

Murray's forehand is not at all the same kind of shots as Roger's : it relies much more on his arm's strength.

Fed made a miracle by taking it to 5 sets, and I would love you to appreciate that effort from him

Besides, don't draw conclusions for other tournaments : of course he's not getting younger and Djokovic and Murray are great, but the Australian open is precisely the best scene for them and the worst for Roger when it's cold.

Great fight and great heart but just not enough gas at the end! As I said, the fact he was so pushed on his serve (which was non-existent for set 1 and 5) was really detrimental to his confidence and overall game.

Let's hope he comes ready for the clay. I said that my main wish for this year is a second RG .

pity that you think that, Roger's win over Tsonga was a great moment, and Roger's 33rd semifinal and 10th in a row in the AO, and also it's necessary for Roger to win those matches to stay in top-4 for long and then to prolonge his carreer and his slam chances.

And today's match was a great moment as well.

I hate to be negative, but I'd rather he lose to Murray in a tough five-setter than (if he'd somehow won that 5th set) get annihilated by Nole in the final in straights.

I am usually able to handle his losses to Novak because I am a fan of him, too (though nowhere near as much as of Roger, obviously). But dead tired and with no serve -- I don't know that I wanted to see that.
