Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

It would have been completely unthinkable for me that he would have missed Basel.

I guess he won't play Davis Cup in September though this year even though Switzerland has home advantage.

The Swiss team should really be able to beat Ecuador without him.

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

I took this quote from the article Doris translated in the press thread (thanks alot btw )
and I'm curious to see how Roger's fall schedule will look now b/c he has 0 pts. to defend in Paris but might skip it b/c of Basel again. If he doesn't play DC then he will probably go to Shaghai.

I have often missed tournaments due to the Swiss Indoors, so it’s nothing new. I love to to to Asia or Paris but you have to set priorities and Basel has always been one of my priorities.

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

I think Roger needs to play one or two events more.

If I were him, I will play Washington ATP 500, Tokio ATP 500 and Stockholm.

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

I guess because Roger has not been out this early at Wimbledon for so long he got the itch to play some more. From Roger's twitter:

I’ve decided to play #opengstaad. Very excited to play in Switzerland this summer. This was the event that gave me my first wild card in ‘98!
Obviously not playing this for the surface, but some extra matches going into US HC season is nice I guess. Also some points will be nice

just saw he posted it on facebook.
Strange
grass-> clay--> hardcourt

is that a good idea?

Wonder why he doesn't play Washington 500 on hc?

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

Yes!

Finally some movements on his schedule. And hopefully another tournament throphy.

I wonder why he isn´t playing Washington. I think he does not want to travel to the USa before the Canada Masters. Washington ends a day before Montreal starts. And then you have to travel.

On the other hand, Gstaad is in Switzerland, and finish a week before Montreal.

Anyway, I would choose Washington because of the points.

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

I can see why he doesn't want to play Washington-(no break)-Canada-Cinci. Also I think, though it's only 2013, we might begin to see the start of an extended farewell tour (actually I think we began to see it with the SA exhibition at the end of last year)

"When I'm asked, how is it to be around Federer, and what is he really like, I always reply, "I wish people could meet him when cameras or an audience aren't around, as he is one of the nicest people I have ever met when stringing on tour. " -- drakulie

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

Gstaad is fast clay, Washington is a fast HC. The US Open is more like a medium HC than a fast HC these days.

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

I was really surprised when I read that Roger is going to play this tournament.

There was much discussion in the last days whether it would be good for him to play a tournament before the HC season but I guess nobody saw it coming that it would be on clay.

Roger is experienced enough anyway to deal with surface changes so I don't think it will matter that much.

Swiss fans will surely be happy to see him playing in his home country again

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

When did he last play it? Seems like a few years ago, if my memory isn't faulty.

I just looked at his schedule the other day and thought it was really weird that he wasn't playing for another month. I suppose Switzerland is less disruptive for the family, too.

Re: Roger Federer 2013 Schedule

Playing on clay will be good for his baseline game
