Re: Roger Federer's 2012 Schedule

I was always interested how it looks Fed's off season . I my my opinion, he takes two weeks of rest, then 2 weeks of drilling in Dubai , then again a week of rest for Christmas and the season starts

weird really. But I am thinking if he goes deep/wins AO, he may either skip Rotterdam or tank one of Dubai/Rotterdam. I guess the appearance fee from Dubai was much too tempting and he does seem to have given his word to Krajicek...
Hope Rog knows what he is doing. Last thing he wants next year is going in tired/injured to the Olympic Games

Re: Roger Federer's 2012 Schedule

Not sure I like this schedule. Really, really packed at the start of the year.

If I were Roger:

AO
Vina Del Mar
IW
Miami
Acapulco
Monte Carlo
Estoril
Madrid
Rome
RG
Halle
Wimbledon
Olympics
Cincinati
US Open
Shanghai
Basel
Paris
YEC

7 Clay tournaments. Some nice places, Acapulco, Vina Del Mar, etc. I personally think that Roger is better off the more he plays on clay at this point.

Reason is this. Winning a 250 tournament when the folks like Nadal, etc, are elsewhere, is better then going to the same tournaments every week and battling it out with Nadal, Djokovic, Murray. Week in and week out. Doha, Dubai are all going to see the big players so he doesn't really gain much by going there.

I drop TMS Toronto. Why? It's before the USO, after the Olympics.

Re: Roger Federer's 2012 Schedule

What Roger's doing with this schedule.

1, he's front loading as many tournaments as possible. Rotterdam + Dubay gives him 2 tournaments in Feb, Two in January, Two in March. Then he has a whole month off by not playing Monte Carlo.

Then it's Madrid - Rome - RG - Halle - Wimbly, which he seems to love.

Then another month off

Then Cincy - Toronto - Olympics - USO.

Then another month off

Then Shanghai - Basel - Paris - TMC.

Then another month off

So it seems that Roger does better with playing lots then taking a month off.

Re: Roger Federer's 2012 Schedule

you can take his schedule with a pinch of salt, he'll pull from at least 3 of those events

no idea how he will handle the olympic year coz 08 was a disaster before US Open

does anyone even know if he and Wawrinka will defend their doubles gold?

Re: Roger Federer's 2012 Schedule

It was expected... No Monte-Carlo!! IMO, Roger should've skipped Miami instead of Monte-Carlo.

He might still skip Miami... & add Monte Carlo. Though he looked really cranky in Monte Carlo last year, like he didn't want to be there. Anyways, he has the right to skip 2 mandatory Masters without penalty. But he won't announce it far in advance because it will hurt that tournament's ability to sell tickets and promote its event. That's the nature of the business.

Nah, Monte Carlo is non-mandatory and its the last Masters Event Roger's gonna win anyway and I think its better if he doesnt overplay on clay. That stretch of 3-4 months is gonna be packed especially in an olympic year
