Re: How did you become a Federer fan?

Began with grudging admiration for him beating Sampras (my favourite player at that time who I had grown up watching), fervour and admiration steadily increased over the next 2 years coupled with dismay at his lackadaiscal performances at times despite an abundance of talent, relished his Wimbly victory in 2003 but it was his TMC 2003 2nd round match against Agassi which finally clinched my heart and made me forever his.

Here's a clip of the last 2 points of that dazzling victory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daZcIQXdg5w

Re: How did you become a Federer fan?

Hello!I'm a Chinese.
I started noticing tennis from 2005,just notice,I couldn't even completely understand the rules back then.
When it came to 2006AO,I accidentally watched several matches of Fed's on TV.Then I watched the final and his tears on the awards ceremony.I was moved by him.And I've been keen on him since then.
As I watched more and more matches of his, I liked him more deeply. He is really an artist of tennis. His match is always splendid. And his success also motivated me.
He may be my favourite person except my parents now.And I'll support him forever!

Come on!Roger!

to all the new folks over here!

As for me - I saw him beat Sampras in 2001, and I became HOOKED ever since.

Re: How did you become a Federer fan?

I probably posted it before, but am too lazy to look it up. I was sort of already seeing the quality in him as player, the one time he made a "sub par" American Davis cup team look silly to say the least, he singly manhandled them 3-0.

From this moment I think in 2001 or 2002, I know Patrick was already the captain I had him in sight.

Then he completely won me over after winning his first wimbledon title, I always loved it when he beat Roddick. That 2003 tournie was sweet, especially after the Roddick comprehensive win in the semis, I liked Mark too but Federer was whom I was rooting for in that final, my sister wanted Mark to win, so I never like being a follower.

Since this moment I have been a loyal follower and admirer of his skill and game.

Re: How did you become a Federer fan?

I saw him playing the Wimbledon final against Roddick. It was maybe the first tennis match I've ever seen. My mother was watching it and I knew nothing about tennis at this time, so I just asked who's playing. She said it was Roddick and Federer. I asked: "Where's he from, Federer?" She replied: "Switzerland." "And Roddick?" "He's American!" And I said just: "OK, I'll cheer on Federer, then!" After that final I got caught by tennis and Fed became my favourite player.

Re: How did you become a Federer fan?

From where I come from, English soccer has always been the main sport. So when live tennis events became available on cable, I started to follow more. In 2002,I began to notice young Roger in his match with Marat in Hamburg MS final. Back then, Marat was the huge fave (and very cute too!) but Roger was simply awesome that day. I thought to myself "This kid's got potential, let's see how he far he will go". Soon after, I found myself taping his matches and now I am a proud owner of a cabinet full of his winning matches. I am so comforted that he has evolved to be such a great athelete and person.

Re: How did you become a Federer fan?

I'm afraid I haven't been following either tennis or Roger for a long time.
I wasn't much of a tennis fan. Cricket is huge here and I used to follow that. As for tennis, my parents were huge Sampras fans, but I never watched many matches. I was just browsing the various channels a couple of years ago, when I came across Federer vs Nadal match at Roland Garros 2006. I had heard Federer's name, but never watched him play. So I thought I would see the one match. Unfortunately he lost I followed his results in Halle and Wimbledon, but couldn't watch any of them. Then I saw the finals vs Nadal AGAIN and I was hooked.

So basically it's Federer who made me follow tennis, even though I knew just a little about it before. And I can't thank him enough for that.
