In a few days’ time, the world’s elite 8 tennis players will meet in the O2 Arena in London to contest one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year – the Barclays World Tour Finals. After a season with mixed results, Federer was second to qualify for the year ending competition after his first round win at the US Open. Since then he has played some inspired tennis. But the question is, can he maintain it with a victory in the finals here, his first at the new venue?
There is a lot at stake for Federer and not just including the shiny trophy above. Whether it be attempting to become the greatest player at the Year-End Championships by winning a record equalling 5th title (won in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007) or accumulating more ranking points towards what may be a final assault on the number 1 ranking, this could prove to be a very important tournament for him. Besides this, there are a number of other records at stake. For more details, please see my other thread by clicking here
(to be updated shortly).
Federer has been pitted against Soderling, Murray and Ferrer in Group B.
Best of luck Rog, good luck in your quest for more trophies and show the world who is number 1!
PS: The winners of the ATP World Tour Awards 2010 will also be announced during the tournament as well and Federer is in the running for a few more to add to his collection. Fingers crossed!
Update: Roger won the ATP Fans' Favourite Award for a record 8th consecutive year. Way to go, Champ!
Update 2: Federer wins the ATP World Tour Finals for the 5th time, beating Nadal 6-3 3-6 6-1. He won all his other matches in straight sets and picks up 1500 ranking points! Thanks for all of the support
