I truly hope Federer would not be drawn to play Lleyton Hewitt in the first round of Australian Open...

how about we just wait until the umpire calls "game, set, match Federer" before counting our chickens?

Well, this thread is all about the records Roger has not taken yet and what he needs to do to take them. Hence my post. Was not the idea to take anything for granted.

Re: There is no finish line...

Out of respect to Kat, this time after the fact:

Roger tied Connors' record of reaching 41 slam QFs today Also, he won his 930th tour level match, surpassing Vilas' 929 and getting into sole 3rd for the Open Era behind Connors and Lendl.

Re: There is no finish line...

Finally! I had hoped he would tie and take this record soon. Congrats Roger! 41. One more and this annoying record goes away.

I believe he owns the most number of 4R+, 3R+ and 2R+ appearances already. Can you check my math on this? Once the QF record from Connors falls, he should own everything except Santoro's record of 70. He's just 2 behind Agassi at 60, and is still chasing Hewitt.

Think he can make 1k wins and be the first since Lendl and Connors to do so?

Re: There is no finish line...

Fed still lags Lendl in the number of Grand Slams "won or lost to eventual winner." Lendl booked 31, but Fed only has 29. Pls correct me if my numbers are not on, folks. Anyway I suspect that win or lose tomorrow he may take one step further in this interesting yet obscure metric

Re: There is no finish line...

The umpire has called game, set, match Federer (see post 323). Fed has won at least one ATP title for 14 years in a row, tieing Lendl' record

Also passes John McEnroe in total number of titles, for sole possession of 3rd place

1 J. Connors 109
2 I. Lendl 94
3 R. Federer 78
4 J. McEnroe 77

Re: There is no finish line...

Next record for Federer is career ATP tour-era outdoor wins at 703. Fed has 701. Agassi has 702. If he plays well at Indian Wells and Miami, he'll bring Agassi's HC wins ever closer.
