I think we just need to come to the realization that from this point on in Roger's career his only real motivation will be at the slams. Just because he might be playing crappily now does not reflect what his form might be at the Open. I think it's a matter of focus. And to act like he won't possibly win another title this year is just silly. We all know he's going to step it up big time for Basel. All the ball boys/girls will be counting on getting that pizza.

My favorite excuse for his loss is that he didn't want to meet Murray and make the H to H even more lopsided. There is even an article about it in GM. Poor Roger, he's scared.

ROGER FEDERER: "There is no finish line. Far from done."

That's just ridiculous and not even worth discussion. if there was even a grain of truth to it he would have tanked in many a clay court event so he wouldn't have had to face Nadal. That H2H is more lopsided than Murray's.

With Nadal sweeping clay court events , he couldn't afford it. If Federer had tanked clay court tournaments in 2006-2007, he woudn't have been No1.

Ehh this loss doesn't bother me in the least. He got some matches under his belt and had some practice matches. I'm surprised anybody would take this tourney that seriously to begin with.

I had no hopes for this tournament. But, whenever he has a huge 5-1 lead, I expect him to be able to close out a set/a match.

I know in the other hand it can be a little concerning given that the past 8-10 months actually 16 months or so he's had issues with letting go of his leads and losing mathces like this one which he should have won.

Nevertheless, hopefully he makes a better showing at Cincy and that propels him to at least the semis at the US OPEN. Right now I am just hoping he keeps the slams semis streak alive and wins a couple of titles here and there.
