Re: *The Italian Open 2009 Thread*

So was his game steadier? I know Karlovic matches don't give much insight into anything, because it's simply a match of reaction like Federer said. Was Roger's serve at least more consistent? Has he picked up on the mphs and the location of his serve?

Howdy all.

Re: *The Italian Open 2009 Thread*

I think his return of serve looked better than it had recently. His serve is still a question mark, 57% isn't too bad, but just one ace against Dr. Ivo? Even on clay, it seems like too little. Wish I could see a speed gun. Movement seemed fine, errors were relatively low, and just one FH shank. Some nice passing shots off that wing, too.

Thanks for the response and little report.

The first serve % is poor, but the low ace count is expected. The last 4 or 5 times they have played, Fed just gets that serve in the corners and then works Ivo over; he rarely goes for big 1st serves. He had 2 aces in Rome last year against Ivo, 1 ace in IW this year, 6 in Cincy (very fast court and a long match). It was strange to see his 1st serve % so low considering that he tries to spin it in.
