Plus, he would want to stay at number 2 for as long as possible, so defending those points is vital in my opinion. I don't think he prefers number 3 or 4 in where he would have to meet Rafa in the semis. So all in all I think it is a good decision. Whatever happens Rog, through the thick and thin. Do your best
In this sense I kind of have to agree with you. At least the clay is not as brutal on the joints and in general on the body. Hopefully he'l get a good two or three matches and get a really good feel for the clay courts. Monte carlo is the the closest to the conditions at Roland anyway. Hopefully this will only be a positive addition.

Howdy all.

I hope he's continuing the coach search behind the scenes(although how that would be kept out of the press, I don't know), but hearing that Luthi dropped his Fed cup duties to devote more time to Roger makes me think that it's not a priority right now. Which would be a shame because he needs somebody outside of his circle to help him deal with the burden this record chase has become.

I guess his back is fine then. Hopefully something positive comes out of playing this tournament.

Personally, I support this decision. I think it's nice to see him determined to go out there and prove something, and try to regain his old form.

He could crash and burn, but I think the effort from him is nice.

Precisely it never hurts to try.

This is what the tournament director wrote on the official homepage:

Quote:
"Several months ago I announced that Roger had not planned to take part as he had modified his clay-court preparation. But, knowing his attachment to the tournament, we never lost hope that he would nevertheless be there this year; we have been proven right and are very proud,” announced tournament director Zeljko Franulovic.
Good decision from Roger to take part in the tournament
I couldn't really understand why he skipped the tournament in his actual schedule. He had good matches there in the past.

He will be awarded his #2 seed there. Please, Mikey, you DO know better than *that*, do you?

It awards 1000 points but is optional. Does that make it a masters series tournament? I don't know because I don't know whether it is the 1000 points or the mandatory nature of the tournament that makes it a TMS.

Yes, he does get a bye.

Need ideas for a new signature...

Re: ********Monte Carlo '09********

Do we have MC as TMS anymore? or is it just the 1000 series/ 500 series?
It's weird if MC is a TMS, carries 1000 points but is no longer mandatory..

Re: ********Monte Carlo '09********

I just ventured into the Nalbandian forum and found out that Nalby has a hip injury that will last eight months. It doesn't specify when he acquired the injury, but it seems like we won't see a nice Roger-Nalby match for a while unless Nalbandian gets ridiculously easy draws.

I hope Nalby will recover soon. I like his game and I like Roger-Nalby match ups.
