Hope some Fed fans appreciate this video/article about Young Gun Fed
Had a thought to see which era of Fed was most favoured when I came across this video of Fed back in 2002 at Miami.
Almost ten years ago now Fed really announced himself on the tour, getting to the final of Miami Masters Series and producing some serious magic along the way.
In the ten years since this clip, his playing style has evolved, responding to both physical and mental changes, as he has developed/ stagnated physically and has learnt to manage his emotions and his shot selection on court.
It's pretty hard to split his career into distinct categories, but if we say roughly there are three periods (Young Fed, 'Peak' Fed and Old Fed), which style of play do you prefer?
The young, explosive Fed who berated himself when he was down, but was a devastating package of speed and attacking intent when he was in the mood (roughly, 2000-2003)
The 'peak' Fed, who had all the weapons and the composure to execute too, but perhaps not such interesting competition as in the early 2000s of ageing greats and the late 2000s of Nadal, Djokovic & Murray?
Or 'Olderer', slower in speed around the baseline and hand-eye coordination, but also better at constructing points when he has arguably fewer weapons and has declined as an athlete?
