Re: Cincinnati Draw

Yes, for once he's got a good draw in a mandatory tournament - hurrah! For full draw see the the thread in GM, or in the Cincy forum.

Some good match first round match-ups as ever....

Re: Cincinnati Draw

I am happy with Roger's draw. If he can play well this weekend, he should probably pick up a few more wins at Cincy to extend his streak...

Re: Cincinnati Draw

But Roger is 0-1 against Hrbaty. The only meeting took place in 2000 though.

Re: Cincinnati Draw

Some people suggested Roger will pull out of Cincy, he has looked a bit tired in Toronto, especially his footwork but who knows what Roger's thoughts are.

Re: Cincinnati Draw

I wouldn't be surprised if he does pull out - he seems rather tired and frustrated with his game - but he can't withdraw from next week's event whilst he is still participating in a tournament this week. I'm sure he won't be the only one though, Coria and Ferrero are both injured, so maybe they won't play either.

could happen, but i think roger's just taking his time in these matches. he hasn't played really well in any of them, but he's still winning with relative comfort just biding his time. he's settling into tournaments the way sampras used to. you hardly ever saw him win 6-2 6-3 or anything.

Maybe Roger can win Roland Garros.......

Re: Cincinnati Draw

So he's not going to pull out (according to his Toronto final interview). He did consider not playing in either of the TMS, but if it went well in Toronto he'd play Cincy too. He seems to think that a week either side of the Olympics will give him enough time.

Hrbaty first up then, and he's 0-1. That match was nearly 4 years ago at Bercy though, so I'm not sure we can read a lot into that result.

Re: Cincinnati Draw

I still haven't calmed down from the Toronto final, I'm not even thinking about Cincy right now.

Re: Cincinnati Draw

Yeah I think it's pretty much confirmed he won't pull out from Cincy. Yeah RF, just hopes he can go a couple rounds and get the much needed rest.

Re: Cincinnati Draw

But that's only the second of Pete's streak. Pete's 24 match winning streak was done in 99, but he had a 29 game winning streak back in 94. If Roger wants to break that, he will at least have to win this tournament.

But I am not expecting him to do so, so, let's at least break Pete's second streak.
