Re: Im gutted

Don't be. Every athlete goes through a rough patch at least once in his sporting career. But no way is this the end for Roger. Yea this one might hurt a lot more than the other losses he's suffered this year but he's too resilient to let one match dictate the rest of his career. I'll say it again-ROGER IS NOT DONE. He'll be back.

His aura of invincibility has faded this year.

Re: Im gutted

It hurts him and his fans but it would happen sooner or later. Now the problem is if this loss takes a bigger toll on him than it should and starts losing consistently in big matches like this one.

P.S: At least try to be more innovative if you want to be ironic.

Well of cos we know that but now it's time for us fans to believe he will be strong and bounce back.

I can't see him bouncing back to the level he had 2-3 years ago to be honest but he can hang there in the top 3 spots for a long time to come.

Re: Im gutted

Yup. I think most of people accept that he can't play as the same level, it's realistic. I just want him to play what he can play.

Re: Im gutted

Having watched bits of his matches from 2/3 years ago, I doubt that he'll regain that kind of form again. He was younger then ... sad as it may be for all of us to admit, none of us are what we were a few years ago! Ok - I admit it... I'm not!

funny thing... i was just thinking about this... not being the same person i used to be...
i used to be 300% confidence in my early teens and think there is nothing i cant do if im determined... and i guess roger's invincibility drawed me in inevitably (of course i love him as a person and as a tennis player too)...and i guess all fans to a certain extent live this fantastic dream of invincibility against all odds through him...
the last 4 years have been a tennis dream indeed.

now for obvious reasons i know there are things u cant achieve even if u try hard enough... but roger stands as a reminiscent of that earlier self... where every dream is possible...
altho its absolutely ridiculous to even draw a comparison... i just want to keep dreaming with roger... a little longer

Re: Im gutted

I guess what strikes me is just how quickly Roger lost that aura. He went from a dominating win at the 2007 AO to losing 2x to Canas in a matter of 2 months. That I never will get.

Re: Im gutted

I think the incredible level he's played over the years brought the best out of many on the tour. But again, based on GS results (sf/f/f), this is not as terrible as it seems, imo. Plus, the illness thing cannot be put aside.

He lost to the winners of the last 3 majors. Nadal's form has been incredible, but I am pretty sure he cannot sustain such a level year round and these lurking knee injuries will also start to affect him. I love the guy, but his physique will bring him down. As for the other guy, he is yet to be truly tested, and people will figure out how to handle his game.

Federer is not done winning majors, that is for sure. I think I am being realistic, and not (too) optimistic.
