Federer's Wimbledon Stats

Will Roger's Grass Streak Hit 66 at Wimbledon?

ATP stats and information guru Greg Sharko looks at the numbers behind the stories of the ATP tour in his regular column, 'Shark Bites'. With an eye on Wimbledon, Shark takes a look at five-time defending champion Roger Federer's astounding grass court winning streak. Also, he examines the history of the elusive Roland Garros-Wimbledon 'double'.

Federer’s Year-by-Year Wimbledon Titles
Roger Federer has ruled as King of Grass with five consecutive Wimbledon titles. During his 34-match unbeaten streak at the All England Club, Federer has won 102 of 110 sets. And he's been taken to the five-sets limit only once during the streak, that coming in last year's final against Rafael Nadal. Here's a look at Federer' dominance at Wimbledon:

Federer Grass Court Streak
59 – Open Era grass court winning streak record since his last loss to Mario Ancic in the first round at Wimbledon in 2002

43 – Different opponents he has beaten on grass during the streak

34 – Consecutive matches won at the All England Club, second in the Open Era to Borg’s 41

24 – Most aces he’s hit in a match during the streak (in ’07 final vs. Rafael Nadal)

16 – Sets lost in 168 sets played

10 – Career grass titles in the Open Era (a shared record with Pete Sampras)

9 – Top 10 opponents defeated during the streak, including eight at Wimbledon

8 – Sets lost of 110 sets played during his Wimbledon title reign

7 – Service games dropped during last year’s Wimbledon title run

6 – Trying to become the first player since William Renshaw from 1881-86 and second player overall to win six straight Wimbledon singles titles

5 – Consecutive Wimbledon titles won in past five years (a shared record with Bjorn Borg, 1976-80). Federer also has won five career titles in Halle

4 – Most times he’s been broken in a match (three different times – ’07 Wimbledon final vs. Nadal, ’06 Halle QF vs. O. Rochus, ’04 Wimbledon final vs. Roddick). Saved four match points vs. Rochus in ’04 Halle, the only time he’s faced a match point

3 – Opponents beaten three times each during the streak (Richard Gasquet, Nicolas Kiefer, Andy Roddick)

2 – The fewest games he’s won in a set (in ’07 Wimbledon final vs. Nadal) in 168 sets played

1 – Number of times he's been stretched to five sets during the streak (in ’07 final vs. Nadal)…Also has lost the opening set only once at Wimbledon during the streak (in ’04 Wimbledon final vs. Roddick)

Re: Federer's Wimbledon Stats

Unfortunately for Roger, this year is the beginning of the end.

I don't like Nadal.

Very impressive stats. It's hard to believe he can handle the pressure for so long. It just shows he's living a very relaxed happy life with nothing much to worry about, doing what he wants to do.

The BIGGEST (borderline delusional) fan of players on General Message Board according to Forehander:
Grigor Dimitrov: FedererBulgaria
Borna Coric: Crowdmaker
Nick Krygios: Dan.
Tommy Haas: Leng Jai
Sebastien Grosjean: Myself
Novak Djokovic: Chiico (Leader of the No1e Cult)

It seems like this was taken from a source. If true, can you provide the link?

Unbelievable statistics. Let's just hope he can add at least 1 more title.

I would be happy if he were simply to extend the match winning streak to 66...........................this grass season. Then extend it another 12 matches next grass season. Then another..........u get the point.
