Was it a good idea for Federer to play Gstaad?

Just wondering what people think since he says he is so tired now and this could affect him during the hard court season.

Go Federer, Nadal!!!

Re: Was it a good idea for Federer to play Gstaad?

It shouldent have any affect on how he performs on the hardcourt season. He has plenty of rest from the end of this tournement till Toronto TMS, so it shouldent be a problem. If he performs poorly this year at the summer hardcourt events, it wont be because of playing Gstaad. Anyway, he's in the semifinals, i really hope he can win his 1st tournement in Switzerland now!

Re: Was it a good idea for Federer to play Gstaad?

Yes, I still think it's a good idea for him to play Gstaad, although he can certainly do with the time off (playing 6 sets today won't have helped!).

He's gonna have less rest this year due to the Olympics shifting the schedule forward (only 2 weeks between Gstaad and Toronto, and he'd have to do some hc prep). I won't be surprised if he skips one or both of the summer TMS. My guess is that he won't play Cincy (he did hint earlier in the year that he might re-evaluate his participation).

Its hardly a choice. He signed a 3-year contract --last year, this year, and next year. Also, its the big tournament for Switzerland, and Rogi is very partial to keeping his home crowd happy.

Yeah, but he has hinted that as he gets older and if he keeps performing well in Wimbly, he may reconsider his participation for Gstaad.

I personally think it is a good idea for him to play there in front of his crowd, especially after he won Wimbly. Nice way to celebrate with his local fans. But yeah, wish he can get some rest.

Definitely, seeing as he won the title- I think 2 weeks is time enough both to rest and prepare for Toronto. Though I think he should fly there after he rests for a week so he can give himself a chance to get over the jetlag.

Re: Was it a good idea for Federer to play Gstaad?

Yes afterall it was a good idea (well he had to follow his contract)

Unfortunately that contract run out this year and hmmm there are big doubts that he'll play next year as there is DC following right afterwards...

There are even discussions going on to delay the tournament for two weeks and even change it into a hardcourt tournament - all just for Roger....

...but I think it would be a shame to change it to a hardcourt-tournament as the clay just suits this enviroment as for changing the shedule well then it's going to be close to the US TMS so no garantie that the still would play it.

But let's hope he'll come back.

Re: Was it a good idea for Federer to play Gstaad?

No, they s not change to hardcourt!! I think it's perfect the way it is on clay. Whether or not it was a good idea for Rogi to play Gstaad, is a moot point -- always was!!

I'm just so happy for Rogi that he finally won his first Swiss title!! Now he only has Basel to conquer. Good thing there are only 2 Swiss tournies! Not like Spain -- and Juanqui has won them all, plus he's won DC in Barcelona -- lucky him!

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!
