Talking Pete and Rogi comparisons.

I have a feeling George won't be visiting this thread anytime soon but let's list them.

1. Both reached the number one rankings.
2. Both are Wimbledon Champions.
3. Both are Aussie Open Champions.
4. Both have won Oz and Wimbly in the same year, eerily enough Pete first won both titles in 94 ten years ago.
5. Both make the game look very easy and artistic.
6. Both have the same star sign (which Rogi duly noted in one of his interviews)
7. Both have the same demeanor on the court.
8. Both are very masculine.
9. Both have the one handed backhand.
10. Both have won titles on all the surfaces in the same year.
11. Both have defended their Wimbledon Title.
14. Both love junk food. Mac was saying that Rogi was drinking diet coke and eating Twix during the rain delays. Pete did the same thing till the Open of 96.
Ok can you think of anything else?

yeah, Gullickson. their death has affected both profoundly

One more comparison:
Both have at least one nervous parent who cannot bear to watch the son play.

Re: Pete and Rogi comparisons.

a comparison made by RF himself:

The Wimbledon champion admitted he has followed Sampras by making himself more single-minded.

"Pete wasn't very often in the locker room. He arrived and left and I do a little bit of the same.

Re: Pete and Rogi comparisons.

The only thing I don't want him borrow from Pete is attitude toward FO. I think Pete never truly beleived that he can win RG. Needless to say, Roger's game is different and more suitable to clay.

Thanks for the article, mitalidas.

Re: Pete and Rogi comparisons.

Both lost in the first rd of Wimbly the first few times playing the event before winning it and dominating the grass season.

Re: Pete and Rogi comparisons.

One more..... the "5 + 7 combination"

According to Encarta MSN, "....Born Peter Sampras in Washington, D.C., he was raised in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. " (http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/refpag...efid=761579922)

That makes both their first names 5 letters, and both surnames 7 letters.
