Federer reaction to Henin retirement

"She was rather small, which was more and more obvious during the last years because more and more tall players came on the Tour, so her successes were even more remarkable. It's a shame for tennis when the No.1 player announces her retirement out of the blue... {ok, i've talked enough about Henin)
I can't imagine just saying goodbye. That wouldn't be my thing. I feel I still have so much ahead of me and so many possibilities in tennis. I just love the sport. It would break my heart to stop."
- Roger Federer

Define the "modern era" I suppose. I certainly think she's been the best of the last 10 years. Serena just hasn't been consistent enough or motivated enough to earn that title, has she even ended a year at #1? And Hingis' "domination" was short lived. In 07, Henin was as impressive as Jesus Fed.

In '06, she got to every single GS final just like Fed.

Re: Federer reaction to Henin retirement

I dont think Federer will retire once he starts losing on a regular basis. Hes more like the Agassi kind i think.
Henin's career has been built around her physical fitness. Of course shes talented but she has exceptionally worked harder on her fitness than most players and even she said that. Thats emotionally draining. I was shocked when I heard about this. Running on the treadmill at the gym watching the sports bar on CNN but you still say its expected from her. Shes always been reserved and private even with her family so im not surprised she ever mentioned anything pblicly about when shed like to retire, what she'd like to do with her life after tennis etc

Yes. Like him or not we have to agree that he would never retire 'today' like Henin. Even if/when he starts to lose points, getting older, etc...I am convinced Fed would't retire.

On the other hand I can't imagine acting him like Safin does these days.

So, he will find exactly right time FOR HIM to do that.
