How Fed can surpass Borg

Player Slams Won Slams Participated Win %

Federer 12 34 35.3%
Borg 11 27 40.7%
Federer wins CYGS in 2008 16 38 42.1%
Federer wins 1 slam in 2009 17 42 40.5%
Federer wins 1 slam in 2010 18 46 39.1%
Federer wins 1 slam in 2011 19 50 38.0%
Federer wins 1 slam in 2012 20 54 37.0%

So basically if Fed wins the CYGS in 2008(which is very possible) he can briefly eclipse Borg. However his level is likely to drop to 1 slam/year for the next several years and will finish at 37%. So in the end, which is better - Borg's 40.2% or winning 20 slams at 37%?

Re: How Fed can surpass Borg

Federer was a late bloomer. What matters is the extended period of dominance. Federer's is greater.

To answer your question anyway... for me Federer has already surpassed Borg, but 20 Slams at 37% completely brutalizes and destroys Borg's 11 at 40.7%.

Re: How Fed can surpass Borg

Of course all of this is only possible if Fed keeps injury-free(knock on wood) and doesn't lose a step. We've been so spoiled by his incredible athleticism and speed, it will be sad the day that it suddenly dawns that it isn't quite there anymore.

Re: How Fed can surpass Borg

Stop comparing 2 players from totally different eras. That's total nonsense. Roger isn't better or worse than Borg, he's different.

Re: How Fed can surpass Borg

But many people say that Borg is GOAT. I'm trying to decide how Roger can surpass Borg.

Federer has won 12 out of the last 18. More dominant than Borg ever was. That's what counts.

Re: How Fed can surpass Borg

But Borg never played the AO. Also he ha 3 FO/Wimby doubles which many consider the pinnacle of the sport. Also he won 11/27 slams for his career, also best ever.
