Frustration with Roger's US popularity

He'll never get the Tiger Woods status(endorsements and coverage). Probably wasn't a phenom enough. Also, not American.

Federer should be more popular. But he won't.

Kudryavtseva def. Sharapova 6-2, 6-4
Tipsarevic def. Roddick 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6
Dancevic def. Nalbandian 6-4, 6-2, 6-4
Zheng def. Ivanovic 6-1, 6-4
Tanasugarn def. Jankovic 6-3, 6-2
Radwanska def. Kuznetsova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5

Re: Frustration with Roger's US popularity

I'm sure he's glad not being a Paris Hilton or Britney Spears and regarding endorsments, sure he could earn more by being American, but what matters is that he can afford Mirka's wishes, and sure he can

No he shouldn't

The Beckhams are over overexposed in the US and back here is the UK. David's football has suffered since becoming a "celeb"

The US is not the centre of everything, and if they don't notice him now with 12 slams, moving there will not change anything.

To be honest I can see the change in him already, through his comments and new pals (Anna, Trump etc)

As harsh as this is, but if he was to get a model girlfriend he would be getting more magazine offers (the beckham's W photo op)

I think Mirka is a nice girl, but skinny models dating sports stars sell, normal girls don't.

Which is why I hope he doesn't get sucked into all that crap

Exactly.

Roger is travelling around the world the whole year, but Switzerland is still his home. It always depend which sports is the most popular in any country, but I think we can say quite clear that Roger is the most well-known European sportsman right now.

Why should he hunt for recognition in the States? He has already earned more money he will ever be able to spend and has a life of which a lot of people only dream.

He has surely enjoy it to be in the media after his 4th consecutive US Open title, but I don't see why it would be any different for him to be in the US media as in any other media in the world.

Re: Frustration with Roger's US popularity

It's an issue of fairness. He deserves the $100 million/year as much as Tiger Woods.

I don't think Fed gives a damn, to be honest.

And if the US is too ******** (censored) to understand his greatness, it's THEIR loss, and not Fed's.

Yeah exactly.

Im sure that money is the smallest consideration in his mind regarding his career...which is not to imply that he is naive about finances, coz clearly he isnt.

I too sometimes feel that he should be as much (if not bigger) an international icon as Tiger...
but then again...maybe he already is...after all, he has done what Tiger hasn't - i.e. win the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for three consecutive years .

Just because the USA cannot recognise him for what he is...doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't as well .

If Tiger wasn't American he wouldn't get that much money anyway. So it is fair in that respect.
