roger needs to be match tough. I hope he gets a very difficult draw at RG.
I agree in many ways but at the same time on clay Federer cannot just win all these 'tough' matches.

I mean Davydenko outplaying him is not a fluke and if Kolya gets his head together (unlikely) I really don't like Fed's chances that much.

Djokovic let the occasion get to him at the USO but I believe he will get back some mental strength and he and Roger could have a heck of a battle at RG.

If he hits top form Nalbandian can also go with Roger baseline to baseline although I think eventually his level always drops. I've never seen him keep up top form for 3 straight sets.

There are dangerous floaters about too but Federer is just better than most of these guys.

Although he completely OWNS the H-2-H I think Robredo is always good to play at RG for Roger. He plays the defensive tennis that Federer struggles against sometimes although obviously at a lower level. Robredo gives Federer good baseline rythm and he needs that in spades to beat Nadal.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

well im advocating a relatively tough draw. Im not saying federer should play 4 5-setters or sth like that. But i would like federer to play at least one or two 5 set matches before getting to the final.

i would like to see federer play a 5 setter against canas, and play canas on a day when federer isnt feeling very confident. Then i would like federer to play a guy like nalbandian or davydenko in a long match as well.

robredo isnt good practice for federer imo. He hits the ball relatively flat for a spaniard. And if federer were to play a flat ball hitter- i prefer nalbandian or davydenko.

playing djokovic wouldnt be bad either.

come to think of it, playing verdasco would be a good preparation as well.

It doesn't matter how many 5 setters he plays at RG if he is ok about losing to Nadal.

you are implying it is only a mental issue with nadal. What i saw was a federer who was on his last legs in the 4th set.

all im saying is that federer will be match tough and his body will be ready for the battle from start to finish...win or lose against nadal. Psychologically, it will help him knowing that he has played 5 sets and can get through tough matches.

thats really all he can hope for. there's no preparation for facing nadal.

I have a hard time seeing federer roll over nadal in straights, so he will have to to beat nadal in a long battle.

I don't buy that. Great champions aren't ok with losing.

You know what?! I dont know what will be more satisfying seeing Roger winning the FO: the achievement itself, or the fact that we will never have to talk about it anymore.

ROGER FEDERER

COME ON MURRAY!
Andy Murray: USO champion! Roger Federer: LEGEND!

2012: A reminder to all of those who said Murray would never win a GS and that Federer was done winning GS titles!

Hahaha, I feel the same way. I wish Fed would just win that damn tournament so I don't have to watch it anymore. The tennis is so ugly from there.

actually for me there is nothing better than watching two ATTACKING players play on clay because the points are so much fun, and they use the whole court. The points are ordinarliy fun on fast courts, but the points are naturally prolonged on the dirt which means more fun

i loved watching kuerten, gaudio, federer, safin, ferrero play on the dirt but watching bruguera, berastegui, mantilla, corretja and nadal is a totally different kettle of fish - sleep inducing actually.

one of the biggest reasons federer has so much trouble with nadal is that the court is just so damn huge!

nadal stands in the parking lot and frustrates him to death, and federer complicates matters with his disdain for dropshots.

I agree with you on the drop shots. That is pure stubborn Swiss pride there.... I understand he believes that is a shot of "desperation." Well, does he desperately want to win RG or what? Desperate situations requires desperate actions.

It is a shot of desperation but he has used his backhand drop shot before though surprisingly on fast surfaces. I don't think he has used it on big points though.

I have never seen him employ a forehand drop shot maybe because he isn't good at it. In fact, I have rarely seen him employ the drop shot volley. He always goes for a classical volley. He may have a mental block against those type of shots.

I think the main reason he doesn't use a drop shot game is probably that he wants to end the point on his terms and unless the drop shot is perfect it will invariably end on the opponent's terms.

World Beater:

let's hope that Court PC is renovated as a slightly smaller court next year... really, Rogi always hated the vastness of that centre court; having to play Raf on it simply compounds the difficulty

as for Rogi practising w Robredo: he practise w him for about 90mn [right after practising w Srichaphan for an hour] in TO06 -- first time I ever saw Rogi practise w a Spaniard -- muy interesante, I thought

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!

Más vale maña que fuerza -- proverbio español
"Pero, con todos mis respetos para Rafa, Federer tiene más talento." - Marat Safin
"Pero para mí el mejor es Roger Federer. / For me, the best is Roger Federer." - D. Nalbandian
"He's the best sportsman, I think, in the world. He has a lot of humble." - Rafael Nadal
"He's so charismatic." - Marcos Baghdatis
