Excellent overview dombrfc! The post-wimbledon race is the most interesting since Nadal is practically a lock for #1 until Wimbledon, and after that he can gain points again on Federer during the summer Masters.

Normally i think the #1 is on Nadal's racket, if he comes close to last year's performance, he will keep it (and deservedly, if so).
But if Federer or Djokovic could take either RG or Wimbledon things look very different. In that case Nadal probably needs to sweep the clay masters again in order to retain #1. But Madrid/Rome are in consecutive weeks, he may skip or lose 1 of those.

Interesting times, as always.

Re: Federer vs Nadal & Djokovic ranking points (updated after TMS Romel)

Thank you

If, and it's a big if. But if Nadal was to have a hard time on the clay for whatever reason, Roger has a great chance at getting back to no.1! (for a few weeks at least...) Nadals post USO results arent all that great, Rogers were fantastic (SF at everything since Wimbledon). Hence the lead in this hypothetical race.

Nobody was really anticipating the Djokovic factor :/ But if he gets there, he deserves it. No doubt.

The possibilities of Rog to be No. 1 after Wimbledon if he won both?

I saw it said somewhere that Roger would be #1 if he wins Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and if he played someone other than Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. A remote possibility, but it answers your question

Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the top?

Roger // Rafa // Raonic // Söderling // Goffin // Ivo // Wawrinka // Baker // Delpo

Federer will be #1 after Washington (8/8) if:

He wins Wimbledon - he will have 11350 points.

Nadal loses before the final - he will have 11290 in case of losing in the semifinal.

Djokovic loses before the quarter final - he will have 11185 in case of losing in the 4th round.

Re: Federer vs Nadal & Djokovic ranking points (updated after TMS Romel)

is there any more purpose to keep this thread in the sticky... now that federer has dropped out of top 3... and looking likely to remain this way for the entire year... and he don't look likely to be able to contend for #1 in the foreseeable future...? suggest to unstick this until the day when federer gets to top 2 again... if that day ever comes...

regards,
wacky
