I see a few potential scares for Nadal - Gulbis, Youzhny / Stepanek, Murray??? and Roddick. Not sure if it's wishful thinking but amongst this list, I would pick Youzhny / Roddick as most likely to beat him (straight set beatdown at Queens not withstanding - oh Roddick!)

Was glad to see Youzhny in form - he won 6-1, 6-4, 6-0 yesterday. My strategy is for potential dangerous opponents of Rafa and the Djoke to be in amazing form, handing bagels and breadsticks to opponents so that they are filled with confidence when they meet either one. After they have done the job of dispatching them, then the form will fail miserably just in time to meet Rog. hehe.
Nadal has a few tricky opponents for sure. I'm thinking mainly of Youzhny here, but on the other hand, Nadal has also beaten Youzhny several times and Nadal is probably feeling better on grass than ever before, so I still see Nadal as comfortable favourite against anyone other than Roger and Novak.

I don't see anyone troubling Novak in the slightest before the semifinals where he'll hopefully get triple bagelled by Roger!

DJERK IS OUT!!

With it loses a whole stack of ranking points

Surely he can't end up #1 at the end of the year.

Maaaaan that was sweet. If Dechy wasn't such a mental midget I could celebreate two annoying serbs out on one day

I'm so ecstatic! I'm a Marat fan and I hate Djokovic so this is double exciting!

AND YESSSS Roger can maybe (no jinx!) get a lead.

BTW, I think you and I are the same person. I dislike Ivanovic too!

What an effective jinx!!

Unless both Federer and Nadal f**ks up, this could mean that Djokovic is out of the race for #1 this year.

Re: Federer vs Nadal & Djokovic ranking points (First post always updated)

while i'm happy that djerk crashed out of wimbledon... i still won't celebrate yet unless federer wins wimbledon... or nadal crashes out early too...

also an in-form safin is always a big threat... i feel that on grass/hard court... ONLY an in-form safin and in-form nalby can be a threat to an in-form federer... the good thing about safin and nalby is that they are mostly WAY beneath wat their best form can achieve... lol...

though federer's form on grass still looking great -- the best compared to nadal/djerk... these days i dowan to discount anything that could happen... moreover with wat federer have achieved so far... i can only hope but can't demand for more to come...

regards,
wacky

Re: Federer vs Nadal & Djokovic ranking points (First post always updated)

I called Djokovic out of the race for #1 too early. This result takes Djokovic to 3245 points for the year. That's 520 points more than Federer has, so Federer will need at least a final appearance to zoom past Djokovic in the race and only a Wimbledon trophee will take Federer comfortably past Djokovic.

Still, Nadal DOES look like the biggest threat for the #1 ranking this year. Even if Nadal loses to Gulbis tomorrow and Roger wins the tournament, Nadal is still #1 for the year - THAT'S how big a mountain Roger has to climb. A win here for Nadal and I think he's a lock for the year end #1 spot.

Re: Federer vs Nadal & Djokovic ranking points (First post always updated)

One rival is eliminated.

That leaves Nadal on his worst surface, and Roger on his strongest.

Oh, and I believe I called Djokovic's loss to Safin.

Nadal still has to beat Gulbis and Youzhny who is in excellent form, not to mention Roddick to reach the finals.
