Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

congrats roger for staying at number one for the fourth consecutive year

ROGER FEDERER

the recipe is simple yet but extremely rare:buckets of athletic ability coupled with gallons of mental tenacity are the core ingredients that produce a Tiger Woods,a Michael Jordan...a Roger Federer

roger is the best

Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

the gap has narrowed to 1000 points difference...

hope federer does well and win TMC and australian open... but his form is a bit of a suspect this season and is a worrying sign that he is past his peak...

next year we see youngsters like nadal... djoko... and the resurgent nalby who are going to threaten his no. 1 position more than ever... never has the previous 3-4 years was his rankings at risk... but year 2008 there could be a chance someone may overtake fed...

Nobody is going to repeat what Federer did in 2005-2006. NOBODY. It's funny how people are proclaiming Nalbandian the new GOAT when Federer did what he has done in the past 3 weeks for 4 CONSECUTIVE YEARS. He was bound to have a "lesser" year and his "lesser" year consists of 3 slams, a slam final on his weakest surface, and 10 finals overall. His "lesser" year is one of the 7 or 8 greatest seasons in open tennis history.

Don't worry about points. There are more important things to worry about: At 25-27 players start losing their speed, become less athletic/more prone to injures, need more to recovery from matches. So, it's all about how he's going to age/stay fit/peak his form for certain events/keep believing in himself despite taking more losses.

Agassi used to say that every year when a player wins one GS title is a great year. Somehow it doesn't apply to Federer.

2007 has seen the rise of FEDERER TRUBA

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers.

Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

nalby GOAT?

he needs to play like that for next few years... gain no.1 ranking... win a whole lot of grand slams... to be even considered.

but there are a few things on priority in mind (as far as being fed's fan is concerned) :
1) win french
2) maintain no. 1 position and break all-time most no of weeks record
3) break sampras 14 slams record

(3) should not be a problem... he has won 12 slams over 5 years... as long as he doesn't quit within next 1-2 years i don't see too much problem to win 3 slams or more in his remaining career unless someone else starts to dominate like federer...

(1) is looking hard... i thought that this year is the best chance of winning... and if he doesn't win french this year... age will start catching up with him...

(2) may be a problem... yes he may be on top for record consecutive 197 weeks... but that is still 89 weeks or sampras's 286 weeks... if he gets his no.1 spot overtaken within this period... it's hard to tell if he will ever regain back no. 1 again.

anyway this thread is about his ranking points... i just hope that he can continue to maintain a comfortable gap in the points to ensure (2) ...
