Re: Federer's ranking discussion

Short term concern : keeping the number 2 from Murray, and the top-2 seeds for Madrid and Roma :

- if Murray wins Indian Wells, or if he reaches the final and Fed loses before SF, then Murray takes the number 2 from Fed after Indian Wells.

- if Federer gets 80 points more than Murray in Indian Wells, he guarantees the number 2 until the end of Monte-Carlo (that is 418 weeks)

- in the intermediate cases, Murray can take the number 2 after Miami if he wins Miami (or if he reaches the final in Miami in case he gets between 321 and 365 points more than Federer in Indian Wells)

- if Murray takes the number 2 after Indian Wells, he can lose it back after Miami if Federer wins at least one match in Indian Wells ; for instance, if Murray takes the number 2 by winning Indian Wells whereas Fed plays at least a quarterfinal in Indian Wells, Murray will need to make at least a quarterfinal in Miami and overall do the same result in Miami as Federer did in Indian Wells (that is he will need a semi in Miami if Fed loses in Indian Wells SF ...) to keep the number 2 after Miami.

The seeds for Madrid and Roma will be decided after Barcelona.

Middle-term concern : the top-2 seeds for Roland-Garros :

here's the situation now : Fed is nearly equal with Murray but Murray should play 3 more tournaments (Miami, Monte-Carlo and Barcelona) (well I would like Fed to play one more claycourt tournament personally, in Monte-Carlo, Munich or Estoril) :

Code:
Djokovic	10550
Murray	7 220
Federer	7 140
Ferrer	5 780
Del Potro	3 630
Berdych	3 450
Tsonga	3 040
Nadal	3 000
Tipsarevic	2 540
Gasquet	2410
Cilic	2 300
Almagro	2085
Long-term concern : the top-4 seeds for the US Open :

Fed is threatened by Ferrer, Berdych and in a lesser extent Nadal and Del Potro :

Code:
Djokovic	6 760
Murray	4 730
Ferrer	4 530
Berdych	3 060
Federer	2 835
Del Potro	2 450
Tsonga	1 825
Tipsarevic	1 320
Nadal	910

useless old guy

Re: Federer's ranking discussion

Djokovic lost to Haas and I'm happy for him but now Murray has more possibly to win the tournament and so he would becom #2 with 80 point of difference.

It's tough to accept because I don't like him as tennis and as the not sportsmanship he continues to prove he's.

Yes, I'm pleased for Haas, but really didn't like the implications for Fed's ranking on this one.

Re: Federer's ranking discussion

I already thought AM was going to take the ranking @ IW.It's just inevitable I guess, esp. since Rog is defending more in the clay season than him. Also, maybe it won't be such a bad thing b/c Nadal will for sure be #5 at RG. He is defending the max clay pts. right?
edit: just remembered he lost early in Madrid.

Re: Federer's ranking discussion

I still think that Fed's gonna end the season (75% - 4rd 25% 3rd) Do not worry.

thanks duong. I guess what I meant to ask was if there is any way Nadal would move up or does David have to lose 1st round in every tournament he plays?

Just imagine Roger, Nadal, & Djokovic all in the same half for RG

edit: also sad if Roger won't make the WTF this year he loves that tournament.

Back to Rank 2 after Murray lost today. Nice of Stan to help out his fellow compatriot.

Now Roger will be seeded 2nd at Madrid meaning he wont find Nole until at least the Final which is always nice

Really? That quickly? I didn't realise it was so close.

And are we expecting Djokovic to be at Madrid? How's the ankle doing?

He admits to mot being entirely happy here at MC but one has to believe he'd withdraw here if later tournaments were thought to be in danger.

Re: Federer's ranking discussion

Well, Fed adds to his record at 2. Chasing just Connors for weeks at 3, consecutive weeks at 4, weeks at 4, consecutive weeks at 5, weeks at 5.

Next up in another 16 weeks, he'll finally pass Pete's record of consecutive weeks at 10. That's the longest in the unified tour era.

That also leaves just Agassi and Sampras for total weeks top 10 (which he's quite a ways away).

Now we're into the 'great desert' phase of his career. Will he have the longevity of Connors to make a serious run at his records here? Nobody else has challenged Connors like this for these records before.

The one who came the closest was Agassi, and even he was still a more than a year short.

Records up at RG - total QFs (still 2 behind Connors), consecutive 3rd rounds, and 2nd rounds. He owns all the rest and is still chasing Lendl here.

Federer - Emperor of the Slams, King of Hard, Lord of the Australian Open, Lord of Wimbledon.
