Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

Roger earned 4050 points in his last 6 tournaments and somehow he is declining. What a joke!! Sampras ended 1998 as no.1 with little more than 4000 points.

I don't see Fed losing the number one spot this year unless he gets injured. Maybe after the AO if he doesn't defend it.

Federer should make the semis at least. Even playing like this, only nadal or joker can beat him. So i still see federer defending most of his pts. The real chance for players to gain on federer will be his performance on clay. If his movement, condition and passive play all are genuine criticisms, federer will feel it most during the clay season where he has a ton of pts to defend.

i dont expect murray to be completely back and odds are that roddick will have to play either nadal or joker rather than federer at the AO. Im not sure he gets throught that.

Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

Federer currently leads the race by 159 points. Ideally, he wants to be up by 300 points by year's end. If he plays and wins Doha, he can go into the AO next year up by 1700+ points which means that it would take a 1st round exit by Fed and a title won by Nadal to catch him. Of course there is a slight possibility that it may be Djoko as the closest pursuer by then.

Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

If Federer can fight the challenge for his #1 spot further than the AO then he has a good chance of extending it a fair bit longer what with his terrible performances last year at IW and Miami. Obviously here at Federer's forum we expect a lot but realistically just a couple of semi finals would actually be a decent gain. A great performance at IW/Miami next year will gift Fed a barrel of points and will either cement his #1 status for a while or reclaim it.

Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)

What are the chances that in the TMC Roger will be grouped with Djoko, Roddick, Gonzalez...... and that Nadal would be grouped with Davydenko, Ferrer, and Haas.

Is there a rule that the #3 seed gets put in with the #2's group or can it go either way?

Roger Forever !
