ALEX CORRETIJA OBTAINS WILD CARD FOR THE VIÑA DEL MAR 2005 ATP
• The outstanding Spanish player is part of the nominees that will participate in the tournament that will take place at the Las Salinas Mailing Club from January 31st. to February 6th.
•His brilliant 15 years career within the professional tennis circuit supports him in obtaining the Wild Card o f the tournament
01/12/2005 - The chivalrous Spanish tennis player, Alex Corretja, applied for a wild card for the principal Chilean Tournament and also one of the most important American Tournaments. The organizers decided to give it to him, in honor to his successful curricula, the quality of his tennis and his respectful and chivalrous character as a tennis player. The outstanding Catalan player, ranked 117 at the ATP, started up as a professional tennis player in 1991, receiving up to date, more than US$ 10 millions in prizes. During his 15 years at the circuit, Corretja ranked number 2 in February 1999, totalizing 437 victories with 17 titles and 13 finals in singles.
Within his victories, we can point out the Rome Open Tournament in 1997, Indian Wells in 2000, Amsterdan 2001 and Gstaad 1998, 2000 y 2002. He was finalist in Hamburg 1996 and 1998, Montecarlo 1997 and Roland Garos 1998 and 2001, among others. Outside the courts, he was nominated President of the ATP during 1997-98 and advisor 1996-97 and 2002-03. His affability and good disposition has always detached him as a “gentleman” among his peers. The specialized Press has always paid homage to him, awarding him the Orange Prize (Prix Orange) at Roland Garros 1999.
Last year he reached third round in Roland Garros and at the Master Series in Indian Wells, finalizing his 2004 participation in the Metz tournament, where he reached quarter finals and was eliminated in second round at the AMS in Madrid and Saint Petersburg.
