ATP Challenger Tour finals

I find it strange that there is no ATP Challenger Tour finals thread in MTF. I think it's about time to start discussing who is going to enter or even if the players are genually interested to enter:

First 16 in the 'Challenger race':

1 Vesely, Jiri (CZE) 484 Davis Cup final (possible alternate)
2 Carreno Busta, Pablo (ESP) 462
3 Huta Galung, Jesse (NED) 462
4 Volandri, Filippo (ITA) 440
5 Ungur, Adrian (ROU) 435
6 Gonzalez, Alejandro (COL) 430
7 Sela, Dudi (ISR) 417
8 Kukushkin, Mikhail (KAZ) 417
9 Nedovyesov, Oleksandr (UKR) 385
10 Gabashvili, Teymuraz (RUS) 378
11 Stepanek, Radek (CZE) 375 Davis Cup final
12 Martin, Andrej (SVK) 373
13 Mannarino, Adrian (FRA) 357
14 Haider-Maurer, Andreas (AUT) 357
15 Riba, Pere (ESP) 353
16 Young, Donald (USA) 352

For example: I don't see Carreño Busta entering any Challenger lately and he is on the alternates list for Valencia (I expect him to be granted a WC). Is he planning on entering the event (ChTF)? Will Radek Stepanek take another try (win) at a Challenger event, is he interested in ChTF? What about the others, who will enter? Is it going to be a coveted tournament in the future or nobody will give a damm?

Discuss

Re: ATP Challenger Tour finals

Considering the fact that it's gonna be played on clay I don't see Stepanek even trying to play here. same with dudi, they are much more likely to play some indoor challengers/ atp qualies.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour finals

Well, it's true in fact I just realised that DC final is in the same weekend so Radek Stepanek (and even Jiri Vesely) won't play there:

ChTF

Stage Prize Money Points
Undefeated Champion $91,200 125
Final win $45,000 50
Semifinal win $21,000 30
Round Robin win $6,300 15
Participation $6,300 –
Alternates $3,500 –

The alternatives for the players are:

HELSINKI, Finland (IH) €42,500
CHAMPAIN. IL. USA (IH) $50,000
GAUYAQUIL, Ecuador (CL) $50,000+H
LIMA. Peru (CL) $50,000+H
YOKHOAMA, Japan (H) $50,000+H

The following week is the final week of the Challenger calendar and there are no other tournament in South America.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour finals

No, you can't compare and I don't but the ChTF delivers more prize money than most ATP250 (bar those held on September/October) for 5 consecutive wins, and more money for participation than any ATP250/500. sure every not commitment player should be willing to play there -and points aren't that expensive either-, nonetheless I see many players not trying hard enough to get to that particular event and therefore I opened the thread.

For example: I really think PCB should be playing Rennes this week he would have taken Kenn de Schepper place and that is as seeded:

1st round
SERRA, Florent FRA

2nd round
HERBERT, Pierre-Hugues FRA
QUALIFIER

3rd round
QUALIFIER
QUALIFIER
QUALIFIER
HAJEK, Jan

That is 35(+15)easy points -not that sure about Florent Serra fitness- and virtually assured berth at ChTF (as well as some HC practise for Stockholm).

I don't know, I believe they are not giving enough credit to ChTF.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour finals

ObviouslySpanish, the players and atp are the ones who dont give credit at all to challenger tour, why would they give it to challenger tour finals?

Re: ATP Challenger Tour finals

Is it so? it well could be I didn't think about it. Surely ATP officials give a lot (I would say a little to much) to WTF. They could give it a little bit more -without being so tiresome- by promoting a bit the ChTF.

I always thought the challenger tour is very well placed and players gave it its due respect (they use it to breakthrough and be aible to enter the ATP main tournaments) it's the ChTF that I think might get a bit more recognised.

But well, it may be best to get down to the potential participants. I have no idea yet on how to post a poll but I'll try to edit the thread and offer one.

Added poll

Other, Donald Young. Quite consistent performances lately and won't renounce to 6300$ just because the tournament is going to be played on clay.

Well Vesely has played two ties this year (2 losses) so I just presumed he'd like to make the finals. They can also play with Jan Hazek and/or Lukas Rosol but the former is even lower ranked than Vesely, and Rosol... well, I don't know they are going to play on Serbian clay I presume (Stepanek).

Czech Republic looks quite fucked up to me but either way my impression is he is going to give it a shot.
