I will bring you some of the drama and details of stuff that went on this week
The Martí-Junqueira match was a bit of a dogfight.. Martí was not happy with courts and decided to call a stop at 4-4 in first set. Then in the second, started complaining and chuky told him "just play"
there was this beautiful exchange of groundstrokes during the match, they were hitting it really hard trying to expose the other player's flaws.
High quality and entertaining. At 4-4 in third set, it was becoming a bit dark and Martí decided to stop.. Junqueira was not very happy. On tuesday there was play on only 1 court due to rain.. it rained heavily from friday to tuesday and the only court in good conditions was Court n7, where all the matches were held.
Velotti told me he s got an isquiotibial injury..he pulled a muscle during the first round match but kept fighting.. in R2, andreozzi had to retire due to heavy cramps.. the conditions were extremely hot and the match was intense considering the hot humid weather and the way it has been all week. Velotti s building some confidence.
Schwartzman's been carrying his momentum from the Futures to this challenger. He spanked Gil badly, just like he's been cruising in the futures level until leading set and break up.. he got nervious both in first and second round -Gil came back, won the 2nd set and was pretty close at the start of 3rd.. but then Schwartzman took control-
Today, everything was fine with Campozano until Davis Cup captains Martin Jaite and Mariano came into the court when set up break up... he started losing it again, but he managed to break to win. He told me he's having trouble with the transition.
Rufin is the one to watch IMO. he's been playing impressive tennis -he will crack top100 if he wins tomorrow-. Pretty good game and flawless tennis.
Leo Mayer started a bit shaky but he is finding form .. There is a glow around him offcourt that wherever he is, he drags your attention, but oncourt you cant feel that energy.
Yesterday's highlight was the Machi Gonzalez vs Facu Arguello match. High level, Facu was playing brilliant and every ball he hit the net would be in his favour. Machi clinged back into the match but his fitness failed him. Facu fought and he said he was a bit exhausted of the long weeks away from home but what was best was the chance to play at home, esp in Cordoba.
Today, Leandro Migani played one of his best matches ever. He acknowledged Kavcic was more of a hardcourter so he moved around, hitting beautiful strokes and I think he didnt miss a single drop shot -and believe me, he put many into the equation-. The match was entertaining in the first set, and a bit off in the second, with patches of brilliant tennis.
